I've been on the internet at least once a day, every day, for 10 years now, and apart from the usual shit like google and youtube, totse was one of the only sites I HAD to check regularly.

It really is THAT bad that it's gone, it's like losing a limb

But definitely lots of win for Zok, I hope this place manages to pull enough people back to get the same atmosphere we all loved totse for

I was never that involved in Totse, just read some text files and lurked the BBS, but it was surprisingly saddening to hit the Totse button, as usual, in a bored, idle moment, and see the news. It set me off on some panicked "ohgod there's so much I haven't read" rush to archive a bunch of shit I may never read anyway.

Like EssJay said, the rush of idiots and general downhill posting on totse came in waves, the BBS went through phases, but the thing that kept it together was the regular members who stuck through it, and somehow just their presence made it always feel like home

totse was a perfect example of a homepage, you could be in an internet cafe in the middle of nowhere, but there was always a feeling of familiarity on totse that no other forums could match

I'm pretty depressed. I mean, nearing the end, the last year or so especially, were pretty bad with so many trolls, chanfags, memes, etc, but in the lesser-visited forums, there was still much intellectual conversation to be found and enjoyed. I learned a lot from Totse, and hopefully I taught a lot on Totse. It will be sorely missed.

I've only just heard the news, and I'm pretty shocked and upset. Been on the boards since 2004, and it's pretty much been a big part of my life since then, as sad as that may seem.

The day Totse shut down was however, inevitable. I'm just glad that the spirit of Totse will not be destroyed so easily, that we have back up boards like this for us to repopulate.
