Why my wife thinks this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZll5edDQQA) is sooooo swwwweeeeet (or rather 'soooo SüüüüüÜÜÜÜüüüüß'..what with her being German an all) ?
Sorry, I know us men have no soul but to me it's just painful.
(those of you who don't speak German but still click the link, be very very glad that you don't speak it, that way you can at least pretend they are actually saying something intelligent and can act)

Jack, it was 1982 (no?) and pretty much nothing in the world made sense. I could have watched that with the sound turned off, and it would have made just as much sense to me. But nonetheless, it rather warmed my heart and brought back thoughts and feelings of time now long gone.
I know that made little to no sense at all... if you ever locate a translated (dubbed or subtitled) version, I'd love to see it.

I looked for a dubbed clip but couldn't find one. Anyway it was from a film about a boy and a gurl. IRL the boy was a one-hit pop star wonder and the girl is Nena, a (still) german pop star who rocked my world back in teh 80's...even if she shocked all us brit boys by not shaving her armpits.
The song would be "Little torch (flashlight) shine" ....and goes on "little torch shine up into the sky and write 'i love you' ".

Ok for all the saddos outthere here is the song translated:
Ich sitze hier auf meinem
Stern und laß im All
die Füße baumeln.
Oh
ich warte auf die Nacht
denn da kannst du mich gut sehen.
Ich hab' so Sehnsucht
bin allein
bitte komm' doch heut' noch!
Ja
wir lieben uns nur von der Fern'
I sit here on my star and let my feet hang. Oh I'm waiting for the night so you can see me really well. I have such longing, am alone. Please come today. Yes we love at a distance.
das kleine Mädchen und
der Prinz vom Stern!
Onkel Mond
Cousine Mars und die
tausend Stern-Trabanten
The little girl and the Star Prince, uncle Moon, cousin Mars and the thousand
star satellites.
sie helfen uns
was keiner weiß
wozu hat man denn Verwandte.
Sie halten nachts den Himmel frei
dann kannst du senden.
Ein Telefon
das ham' wir leider nicht
doch du schreibst mit dem
Taschenlampenlicht.
They help us, which no one knows, for why do we have relatives. They keep the sky clear at night so you can send (a message), unfortunately we don't have a telephone but however you write with the torch light.
....
Note from the Admins: At this point the translation breaks off....jack is still vomiting.

Remember bruv...It doesn't matter where a bird's from, she'll always find something sweet, beautiful and highly appealing in something we would puke over.
That's just women for you mate.

Yeah I know, but this is really really REALLY bad. I just can't see the appeal. I am honestly mystified. I found it on youtube and put it on thinking it'd make her laugh...

Just watched the video...
The first part of it looks like the opening to a porno movie...And when she took her top off, I really was expecting surprise buttsecks.

Didn't they discontinue use of the eszett? Or trying to slowly ween it out of the German language?
I think I remember my mom bitching about it a awhile ago.

I'm not German, I'm ALL Polish. (Commence Pollock jokes here) But I do speak a little bit of German. In my experience, anything involving Nena automatically becomes "sweet", romantic, or adorable to a german woman.

So I was enlightened by a German colleague of mine last night at work as to the usage of this song.
Apparently this is a party song...You're at a party, drinking hard, doing your thing, meeting chicks and dancing like a mother fucker...Then when the party is really dying down and everyone is either asleep or talking, this song comes on for the guys and girls who have met, become close and wanna cuddle up and shit.
What's the German word for cuddle? Because that's what he called it...A <insert German cuddle word here> song.

Two words spring to mind, Kush-shell-lead or schmoo-sell -lead (thats how they sound).
And yes he's not wrong but it still doesn't explain why women go all gooey when they watch the scene.

Yeah...It was kuscheln that he said.
Maybe it reminds chicks of their first time cuddling up with a guy after a party...Or maybe it's the stupid fucking words that you and I as men will never "get" completely.
