View Full Version : Shoes that'll last

I've got some seriously worn tennis shoes and it's about time I get some new ones, but I feel like I throw a lot of money away on them; they cost too much to be worn away a year later.

I'm looking for some comfortable shoes that I can wear around when I'm walking and whatnot. They don't need to be super fashionable (though I'd prefer if they didn't look like ass), they just need to be able to take a lot of abuse (without being super bigass boots, I already have some of those).

Price is more or less irrelevant if its a product that'll last me.

Any advice?

If you get some high quality skateboarding shoes like DC's and if you dont skate, and generaly dont do fucked up things while wearing your shoes. they should last you 2-3 years.

At least thats the case for me and my DC's ive had.

I have some of these that look quite nice, IMO. I picked them up in Rome last year, but you can order them online too.

They've held up fairly well. I've kept them clean and they look great if I need to look a little dressy (These shoes, dark jeans, light shirt, black blazer)

I also have a pair of Adidas Adi's that I can't seem to find a picture of for some reason. They're really durable and quite comfy.

I'm not sure what your style is or what brands you're into but those are the two shoes I wear the most. I also have some Chuck Taylor's but I try to avoid wearing those since everyone and their mother owns a pair.

Timberlands.

Also, Lacoste. I've been wearing a pear of Lacoste sneakers and they're far better quality than that Puma piece of shit.

Merrell's are a good shoe company

I've had a pair of these for just under a year, they are still in a pretty good condition. The last Merrels I had before lasted me for 3 years. They make rugged shoes, that are also good for just wearing around, everyday use. They make a shoe that fits my weird shaped feet, so thats always a plus. They are decent price-wise

I don't know if you'd want to wear em but birkentstocks seem to last a while and you can send them in to have them resoled if you don't want to buy new shoes.

I think Asics are the most comfortable shoes I have had. They last quite some time. They're good especially if you do some running or lots of walking. Worth the price if you ask me, not that they're very expensive.

I like my chukka's but they're definitely not durable. They seem to be very cheaply made and are falling apart after 4 months.

I've had a pair of Prada shoes for about 3 years, not even a scrape on them. Thyve been through thick and thin, camping, quad biking etc.

Timberlands will last you for a long time, but you don't wanna wear those in the Summer.

AF1 might be a good choice for the Spring/Summer time.

Nike Franchise. I have no clue how obtainable/popular they are now but I wore them for 4 years straight and they never gave the slightest hint of falling apart. I dragged them through everything possible (four years) and I don't even remember the sole laces sticking out.

I'm not sure if they're made with different materials, but mine were all leather.

I find most popular brands of running shoes to be of poor quality.

I like to buy shoes and boots from Caterpillar. (same company that makes bulldozers) They are built to last for people working in the trades, but there is no reason you can't wear them as ordinary footwear. I've had the same pair of shoes and boots from them for about 4 years now and there is hardly any sign of wear.

I had some of these Adidas Originals in white leather with green details, and they lasted for three years, wearing them every day. The outer sole wore out and they started letting in a bit of water, but they still had another 6 months in them I reckon.

My mum still has her Doc Martens from when she was a teenager, and she's fifty now. You've got to oil them properly though, otherwise the leather cracks. I neglected mine and they cracked after 18 months.

Yeah but don't get the fugly ones. The classic 8-lace boot is great.

Also, they now have a lifetime guarantee. You can't get much longer lasting than that.

gotta get those in black..the white toe shell turns yellow after a while...

I suggest black skater shoes..they seem to last me the longest, anything white won't last...they might not get torn up, but they will look like shit after a while.

Yeah mine had a leather toe. As far as I can tell it's the same shoe though.

Had a pair of Merrell slams. Put a lot of miles on them, both at work and using them for running. They held up 2 years.

If you want durability, boots are the way to go. Chippewa boots rock. My last pair lasted 3 years of near-every-day use. And they were still wearable after that much time. I just got sick of them and wanted a newer looking pair.

Shoes never fail unless you are a careless and clumsy fucking retard. It's a compact block of leather and rubber; how could it fail?

Vibram Fivefingers. The soles are surprisingly durable, Virbam is known for their soles and that's what they focused on for most of their existence. You can use Shoe Goo to make them last longer.

Other minimalist shoes may actually last longer because of improved biomechanics. You're more aware of the ground and less likely to scrape the sole against it, particularly when running.

I've wanted to try them, I hear they're... grippy.

Good luck wearing those in public, though. As much as I hate it I have to keep up some modicum of a normal appearance

If you're looking for a really durable shoe, I would look into to some of the hiking brands--or anything with a vibram sole, really.

I own these
http://i50.tinypic.com/2i0yr5z.jpg

And there still in good shape after a year and a half, despite doing a fair bit of hiking in them and the winters (getting wet and with all the salt on the roads).

They are expensive though, and kind of narrow.

Ecco shoes last forever. I have a pair from about 3 years ago that I have gone hiking in and done all sorts of stuff and they still look great and are comfy.

Also Ecco uses the Vibram sole.
