View Full Version : What should I be doing as a High School drop out (7 months)?
I've been out of school for at least 7 months, I haven't really done anything, except for a lot of mischief. I'm soon turning 19 as well. Right now I enrolled in an academy that will be offering a high school diploma only if I complete the courses, and I get a job automatically. Cool right? Thing is, that there is a waiting list, and I'm not sure what to do with my time, I need to be able to pass their drug test, otherwise I'll be waiting another 30 days. I just want to know what I should be doing with my life as of now instead of sitting around doing nothing, maybe be doing a certain substance, and wait to be accepted into this academy. So far I've made some money, by very bad means. But I'm not even sure what to do with the wealth I've amassed. I look around my room, and I notice most of my friends have more stuff in it. All I have is an extremely nice bed (Temperpedic) with decent sheets, a shelf on the wall, and a couch in the corner. But I really need to know what things I need as of now as a high school drop out, what should I be buying with this money?

No way he'd make it to legion etrangere if he can't even stay in highschool.
OP, buy books or download them, whatever, broaden your horizons, learn some stuff beforehand, get more in shape.

I don't really get why people drop out.
OP, what interests you? What do you want to do in life?
You see, earning money is not much fun. Working 40 hours a week doing a job you hate, for minimal wage? Screw that.
It is A LOT better, if you are doing something that you actually have an interest in. Something you would do as a hobby anyway, if you didn't need the money. Something that is at least somewhat rewarding, even if you don't get paid.
Furthermore, if you do something you're actually interested in, and you have at least some ambition, you'll get better at it. You can get the best at it in your area. If you persevere, you can get among the best of it in the world - that's true, people who get there are no different than me or you.
That will lead to more interesting jobs, and more money. Sounds ideal, right?
Only two things you need to get on this path:
1). Find something you're interested in. If you want to be making money with it, make sure that it's something that can benefit others in some way. E.g. entertain them, or provide some sort of a service to them.
2). Get off your ass, and get at least half-good at it.
Progress is good, stagnation is bad.

If I were you, I'd be spending alot of time trying to figure out exactly what it is that you'd like to do for a living. You mentioned that you're going through the course for the GED, and I want to say that this was a great move. It was hard before the recession to find a job without highschool/equivalent, and right now its impossible from what I've heard.
Just focus on your goals.
As for the mundane shit: clean, cook, shave. Just do little things that make you feel productive, it makes a big difference in keeping up your motivation for larger long-term goals.

Get a job cooking. It'll suck at first 'cause you'll be the kitchen donkey, but after a couple years you can work your way up to great pay, great benefits, even get your red seal/journeyman tickets.
Plus even at entry level cooks make decent money. When I started years ago it was at $11/hr. Now as an executive I expect $20 minimum. No formal education required, just hard work and passion for the industry.
But, if you're not into that, you should figure out what you really want to do with your life, and, if it requires post secondary, go back to school you bum.

I don't understand why you would voluntarily drop out of HS.
It's pretty straight forward.
Memorize, write down on test.
Hookers and blow.
Ha, ha. Jesus christ, man! Get back in school. If you're not motivated to do it figure out where to get it before you waste your life in ignorance and poverty. Right, Slag? Oh yeah, hes BANNED.
