The blog post (http://zoklet.net/bbs/shrink-wrap/105911-blog-post.html#post1698600)in the shrink wrap section has just reminded me of a forum I used to go to, they had a section where members could blog. I actually had my first blog there, and it was like a thread, and I would write about stuff in there, just kinda talkin to myself. Sometimes other members would give feedback and I would reply sometimes.
Just an idea. It could increase traffic on &Z, if members have interesting things to blog about.

Destructoid (http://destructoid.com/) has an interesting feature where people write "C blogs" which are community blogs, and then people vote them up and the best ones get put on the front page.

Kuro5hin (http://www.kuro5hin.org/) does a similar thing, but for articles.

So we could borrow from those systems.

Personally I was leaning towards really quiet and private blogs, where people would just write about their everyday lives, instead of writing to impress an audience. I think writing for someone eliminates the realness of the blog, instead it just seems like a big commercial about something..

I think this is a great idea, I think The next VB version has a fully integrated blog system, but it was voted against upgrading or something.

I would love to see this happen, through users should have the options to see how private the blogs are (which I think are there in the upgrade)

But if you are writing for yourself you could just get a blog on blogger or wordpress or whatever. The whole point of zoklet it's a community site, a community forum. I don't see the point of having a blog feature implemented here if it's not going to feature the zoklet community.

Just write articles and submit them. Become a contributor and you can submit your articles on the front page of Zoklet.

It does feature zoklet. The whole place will have zoklet written all over it, and it will be real. Trust me, it's way different if you have an individual blog, than making a thread on a forum that serves as a blog. I think personal blogs can bind users from different sections better, if I see a blog that's interesting, I might follow the person around for a bit, and get to know stuff from other sections as well. My intention for the blog idea wasn't aimed directly at increasing traffic, I just mentioned it could increase traffic if someone wrote something interesting.

Basically taking the ball and running with it regarding a biography idea... Why not have a forum where everyone gets to blog?

Just have a thread approved by a mod with a title of:

[Username] "blog title"

just like that, and then have the mod lock the thread so everyone can't just post in there and ruin the format. That way it keeps it nice and organised, and not cluttered by multiple threads from one blogger.

Then whenever they want to add a new post to it, PM it to the mod and they can add it in there for you, or unlock the thread, let you post, then lock it/infract any smartass who tries to post in there while it's open and remove their posts - Have a really harsh infraction for posting in an open blog while it's being edited to discourage the behaviour.

You could then add an open sub-forum for people to discuss any blogs.

To deal with the heavy traffic and posting, you could just make all the current mods a mod of the forum. Maybe have one open sticky in there where people can say they want to update, then whatever mod sees it first can deal with it?

I think it'd be nice, some people here could use the self-indulgence, and there are some cracking writers on Zoklet.

Yay or nay?

Sounds good, but the mods are going to have a really heavy workload.
Hope this works out, I really wanna see what everyone's like.

Sounds horrendous. Again, I don't see the point of having a blog feature here if people aren't able to discuss your blog with you. Your idea would be pointless, and far too much work, it would be about 10 times easier to just make a blog on blogger and disable comments if you wanted to do it that way.

I also think people should be able to discuss stuff, but some troll control has to be taken also. TJ's idea still needs to be refined a bit, but I like where it's going.

Nah, the closing/unclosing is a bad idea. Also having only one thread per user is a bad idea, not all blogs are just about the person themselves. Putting up a post, not allowing anyone to post about it unless it's in a seperate sub-forum? Aesthetic/logistic nightmare. If you wanted to add to it, edit the first post. If you've got something entirely different to say, start a different thread.

The way I see it, it would be like the ICUMDC section, except for all users instead of just Fish, and each thread more of an actual blog.

Yay, think its a great idea. I'll be working up something to present to admins soon. Also, posting articles is another great idea that should be taken into consideration.

This whole thing can get fucked. No one user here ever experiences anything interesting or comes up with anything insightful on a regular basis. Talk about it when it happens on the forums. Don't feel the imperative to talk about your shitty self on a regular basis.

If you actually have something meaningful to write that will remain meaningful against the flow of time, then by all means submit an article. Consider your audience though.

Does anybody here actually read other people's blogs? People who aren't friends in real life or somebody famous? I doubt it.

Does techdirt count, or has it made it to "newsfeed" status

Can't we have a beta to test the idea out?
Just add a blogging section, let it sit for a month or so to see what happens.
If it doesn't go well we can just shut it down.
