Depends on your cat. I've got a dog, a cat, and rats all in the same house, and things work out fine.
It would be a shame though, to bring a ferret home, only to find your cat has his heart set on having ferret for lunch.
If you can find a breeder that'll agree to it, see if they'll let you 'borrow' a ferret for a week, to see how things go.
To be honest though, I'm more worried about the ferret deciding he doesn't like that cat. Those things can be fucking vicious.
I've actually been wondering the same thing, since I'm thinking of buying Ferrets.

if i were to get it declawed would that solve the problem (can you get ferrets declawed)? or are their teeth just as bad?

dude.. don't worry.. They will get along great. But, FYI Ferrets tend to stink like crazy...
But anyways, don't worry.. They will be pals.. They will chase and play with each other.. Itll be a blast..
