Sometimes people have embarrassing things to say, and the only way to ask it would be to make a fake account. you don't want that we don't want that, how about we can post as quest or what ever, and to keep lames from over using it make it so it can only be used once a week or maybe even a month because how often do you need to be hidden not very often.

If you have embarrassing things to say then a lot of moderators will be happy to post something anonymously for you.

I know that's true in LLR, i'm not sure about the other forums but i'm sure it would be the same.

Posting as guest would make controlling the forums practically impossible. I think you can safely assume this suggestion won't be implemented.

As matt110 said, if you have an embarrassing post to make, the mods will be more than willing to post it for you -- just ask, via PM or email. Nobody will ever know who made the post if you do so -- it'll remain between you and the mod.

This is a good example of something that should have been posted anonymously.

I have advocated allowing Anon posting on old TOTSE. The conservatives did not like it.

Right. You wouldn't want to tarnish your reputation...on...the internet...?

Wouldn't really be an issue if one complimentary guest post was provided to every member per month. You even could limit it to making an anonymous guest thread. If it broke the rules, no special mod action would be required to address it. Mods or like, Zok could view who made the post if it was breaking major rules on the site (you know which ones would be a problem more than I do I think).

I don't really see any problems with this.

No way. This isn't 4chan.

Plus, mods will gladly post anonymously for you.

PLUSPLUS, isn't that the point of an internet forum? Posting anonymously? Nobody here knows who I am in real life, so what difference does it make?

No. Forums where you register and choose a username inherently mean you lose your anonymity. You have a psuedonym but people can still track you based off past posts as to info on you. The difference is that you are anonymous in the so called "real world" - meaning things online do not directly affect you in the 'rela world' - meaning people off the forum cannot track down your IRL powerword/name, location, phone number, etc. Just because people's IRL shit is unknown to people on a forum does NOT mean they are anonymous.

I see you're from Chicago. I am too. Do you know who I am? No? That's because I'm posting anonymously on a forum with a psuedo-name that I created and could have easily made into anything I wanted to.

I could post all day about child pornz and running old people off the road and you wouldn't even know I was your neighbor, professor, or even best friend.

lol. But you have some sort of name, leading to power plays and dynamics from people gaining relatively-static identities. Yes you can change it/change your account, but you are not anonymous on a namefag forum...because of the fact that you have a psuedonym. I won't know you IRL, but I can identify you on line based off your username. That does not make you 'anonymous'. You're simply not teethered to the 'real world' and have a psuedonym. You still have an identity - making you not anon. Of course I can't tell who you're IRL. But I detect you OL.

The power dynamics on registration forums are more close to the 'real world' than forums where there is no registration, that's my point.

psuedonyms =/= anonymity
