Looking into moving to the UK and joining their military

I've just started my research on this and it seems like a good idea at the moment. I'm just trying to find out how much the government cares about your previous life(arrests/medical) as well as how difficult it would be to migrate from the US. I'm also looking into whether my US issued GED would still be relevant.

I'm young(21 in 07/10) and broke(decent amount of medical debt) without much for family. I'm just looking to get lost in life and come out stronger than before. I'm thinking this is a good route. I would join the French Foreign Legion or something but a) I don't care to learn French and b) I'd still be a US citizen.

Actually, jackass, I'm on probation right now. I would join the military over here if they weren't so concerned about my medical/criminal history which I'm hoping to escape by leaving the country. A couple misdemeanors, a major surgery, and a few minor ones and apparently that nulls a 93 on the ASVAB. They're also pretty shitty about me only having a GED because all my medical shit happened during high school so getting a diploma was out of the question. They wanted me to repeat my entire career there while in my junior year. Fuck that bullshit because I still passed my mother fucking classes and all they had to say was my attendance was too low.

There's some conditions on that bed I'm offering. You may use it for REM mode sleeping only. In other words, if you lay in bed you have to instantly enter a state of REM sleep, otherwise I will terminate your boarding with me. Also, when I said you can have a free or reduced lunch, I meant you can eat the lint around the house and various insects and reptiles and what not you might happen to find outside of the house. But you can't eat anything you find in my room or the bathroom. If you can't find anything to eat, I'll be happy to shave some of my chest hairs off and you can eat those instead, at a price of $250 dollars per hair. Oh yeah, you can't use the bed on weekends. And if you violate any rules I'll have to call the cops on you and tell them you're a burglar. Sounds like you've got a bright future ahead of you son, right? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: I missed your reply about your criminal history preventing you from getting into the US military. That being said, I'd still try for the US Army. They're desperate for people to go die in Iraq for Israel, The Saudi Binladin Group, et al. I really can't imagine it being any easier to get into the UK Army.

Actually, it's my medical that's the issue and no they won't give me any bonus. They stopped giving bonuses last time I went around when I found out that over half the MOS offered aren't even taking recruits let alone MOS that carry a signing bonus.

I actually like the weather over there and I'm not doing this because it'll be easy. I expect it to be the hardest thing I've yet to tackle in my life. I want to bring my body and mind to the peak so at least I know what I am truly capable of.

7.5% of ex-forces in the UK become homeless (10% of 150k homeless are ex-forces, so 15k homeless/200k forces).

Now considering that you would be going into the infantry at the lowest level, with the highest incidence of post-traumatic stress, lowest wage and probably very difficult to get a mortgage, with no family or friends in the UK, I think you're a very good candidate for becoming a tramp.

The US military is uncomfortable that I've had 5 surgeries(right wrist, right ankle to put hardware in, right ankle to take hardware out, a benign tumor removed from my sinus cavity[I have metal plates/screws in my face], failed attempt to fix my deviated septum from previous surgery). They're also not so keen on my misdemeanor charges(marijuana poss. and a bullshit criminal conversion charge they somehow got to stick).

If I had my choice, I'd jump at the chance to join the Marine Corp. They just don't get that even though my body has been injured, it is well healed and has shown me how to push past limits I never thought were possible.

They will gladly take you, no matter what your history. They have to advertise constantly, and if commonwealth soldiers hadn't been capped at 10% of personnel, they all would be. (I know the US isn't in the commonwealth, but the point is moot. No one even knows it's a foreign country.)
And your best bet would be the Royal Navy. The pay is slightly lower, and you're on a ship for a few months at a time, but if you want in I think that would be the way.
