I'm trying to fix the memory card slot in my digital camera, but I keep electrocuting myself when I try to pry the circuit board off. The batteries are removed of course, so I assume it's the flash capacitors doing it. Is there a safe way of discharging them without shocking myself any more or risking damage to the camera's circuitry?

wear rubber gloves.. But be careful, you are likely to destroy the circuit board by "ripping" it out.

Ah, I surprise myself sometimes. I managed to take that little bastard apart, fix the problem, shock myself three times, and put it back together with only two screws left over. It works great. For now.

What camera is it? Certain Nikon Coolpix models have a service mode which has an option to discharge the flash capacitors so you don't fry yourself taking it apart.

Otherwise, get a 1k resistor and short across the cap with it to discharge it safely.

Yeah, pretty much this. But I retro-digresss

If you were truly 'electrocuted' you would no longer be allowed to post in this, or any other forum. Not because of Mods banning you, but due to the fact that you would be dead.

Sorry, but there IS a grave diffence between getting a shock and being electrocuted. (just ask any former inmate of death row)

Back in the day (mine, not yours) before god created multimeters and oscilloscopes, we used to just lick our fingers (for good conductivity) and grab 'hold of whatever circuit we wanted to test and see just how active they were.

We learned pretty quick. !!!

I forget what the point of this all was, Munkey help me out to help out if you dare at this juncture I am total lost,.
