View Full Version : In Consideration: Why don't users get email notification when they get banned?

An email explaining
1) The reason
2) Some message
3) The mods name & contact info
Is all thats needed. When people get banned half the time it just says "You have been banned due to infractions" or whatever that message say (I've never seen it of course, so I wouldn't know :))
Theres no way of knowing which mod banned you (that I can see) or why, you can't access your User CP to check...it would simplify things greatly.

You can setup your PM's to be relayed to your e-mail address in your control panel options BEFORE you get banned, and having done that, you will receive the ban, infraction or warning sheet to your e-mail address even after you've been banned. Mods are already setup to receive Visitor Messages. Ban sheets already have the name of the banning mod on them.

Ya, McNutter is already unbanned. He was posting on a couple of sock puppets for several days before he rudely discovered this.

i'm all for beating on mcrjtn in the normal course of events..but in all fairness he doesn't deserve it this time. And he does have a point. The system is set up so that most infractions can be resolved with a quiet sidebar, but on a ban the only option to make that happen is to break another rule and create a sockpuppet.
It feels like a war on drugs tactic whereby offenders are criminalized because we say so, then forced into more serious infractions. Which when the sockpuppet succeeds in working out the situation in a civilized fashion, then becomes a positive feedback.
"i broke this rule, got banned..so i broke a bigger rule, and got the infraction reversed. Hey i jsut got away with something"
The point is not that the user is at fault, the System is BROKEN.
umm...damnit, this is a great rant, but to be honest with you guys i jsut completely lost my train of thought.
(edit: oh yeah, make infractions publically viewable! that way they can find out who banned them without gaming the system)
