It would be great if you could choose the forums you were interested in.

Like, I have no interest whatsoever in the food forum, so it would be neat if I could deselect that particular forum, and instead be shown threads from forums that I actually participate in.

You could argue that this would lead to less activity in forums that the majority of posters normally never venture into, and I agree; it's just that those posters are probably not the ones contributing positively to the debate anyway, because they don't care for the specific topic. I think this might actually help reduce garbage posting and spam a little bit.

The main reason for doing this, though, is simply to make the site more user friendly and smart.

I guess so... although it doesn't really seem worth the effort unless its a simple 'on/off' setting in vBul.

That's the one thing I love about hot topics too. I see an interesting thread, and click it. Sometimes it takes me into a forum that I've never been in before and I end up finding more interesting threads to look at.

You pretty much look at all your favorite forums all the time anyway, so I don't really know why you would want to see them in your hot topics as well

Point of the hot topics is for when a thread comes up in a section you normally wouldn't look at you see it.

I guess it would be OK if it is not a major undertaking. For instances if there is an existing MOD/Hack for VB to accomplish this. But I don't think it would be worth the effort if it took some custom editing of the VB script set.

how about going one further and making it so that you can choose for the hot topics to only show threads youre subscribed in?

I have a better idea.

Why dont we reserve hot topics for threads that exceed a certain number of posts. Because surely, not every new thread that is created is a Hot Topic. It just doesnt make sense.

And besides, new threads still get attention from that little button up there called "New Posts."

So to recap, Hot Topics should be reserved for actual Hot Topics.

How about all of the suggestions in this thread, providing you can switch to whichever version you want to?

how does hot topics work, anyway? is it just threads which are currently being posted in the most/most recently updated? maybe some sort of rating system, as much I hate to say it, would be nice?
