On the drag bug, how far did you stroke it?

Crashed my 97 Jetta III into the back of a utility van on the highway about a month ago, but I have to wait until my dad gets paid on a job to order the parts and fix it, so it'll be a few weeks. Smashed up the grill, right headlight, and a bracket holding the radiator to the front of the frame [I think] behind the bumper, along with buckling the hood. If you buy them all used on partsplaceinc.com it's about $325.

How did you like your bus?

I've got a Mk4 1.8T GTI for my daily and I picked up a '92 2.0 16V GTI for a project about 9 months ago. I'm doing a total rebuild on the Mk2 right now and it should be up and running pretty soon.

What are you driving right now?

Someone ran a red light and t-boned my MK IV Jetta VR6.
Now I'm driving a MK V (07) Rabbit 5spd. I have a lot of plans for it, just need to fall into some money.

My first car was a 1987 Fox GL. Not worth mentioning.

However, right now I've got a 1985 Vanagon Westfalia, and I've been travelling from Vancouver B.C. ever since. I'm currently in the middle of Florida, having driven mien Volkswagen across to New Brunswick, down through New York, and will head off towards California in the next few days.

I'm a massive German car fan as any long time totsean that knows me can testify. When I'm not dreaming about watercooled vanagons, aircooled bugs and Ghias, or the occasional Corrado and GTI, I'm dreaming of 20V Urquattros and a variety of Porsche 911s, mainly the non-poser road racing models. When I get home, I'm tearing the Westfalia apart and rebuilding it from the ground up. Plans include a newer Subaru engine, and a 5 speed.

Corrado G60, one of my all time cars along with the golf and polo G60 i love the old GTI's 2 and these new TDI engines VW make fuck me they last forever my passat is on 300k and still runnin sweet. If you cant think of anymore then turbocharge a vr6 and put it in a golf mk1 or mk2 hehe stupid power in a small car = fun :D

The G60 Corrados are cool, but the VR6 Corrado is better. The sound alone is just so damn sexy..

They are both nice cars :D its just its really hard to find a G60 i have only ever seen 1 with my bare eyes

Really? I've seen about the same number of both, though I had a ride in the back of a G60 when it was new. I was like, 6 though. Never got a ride in a VR6.

There are plenty of Corrados around where I'm from, but British Columbia has alot more european cars than pretty much anywhere else in Canada, nay, the continent I've found so far. Don't know what California will be like but heard its car central. We'll see :)

well i'm from the UK and i have been lucky enough to be in a the 16V model, I envy u lol. Any G60 here is and always has been like gold dust. Along with the VR6 Corrado its just usually 16V's models here and even they are getting rare.

I'm driving the 1985 MKII Golf Four Door Diesel. 80,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. 12" Alpine type R Sub with Alpine X-Series Front Stage. Car runs and Sounds good. Except I'm thinking I need to bleed my brakes since the pedal reaches the floor before any stopping happens.

I wouldn't mind an EOS.

Namely because its the only convertible I've sat in, in which I definitely fit properly.

SLK could also work though, but I'd want a 350 which is like twice as much.

I have a 1981 Puma GTI that I am restoring, its not made by VW but it uses the beetle chassis, motor & drivetrain. I had it shipped from brazil.

This pic is to show you what it looks like, but THIS IS NOT MY CAR

If we're going to play it that way, I'd like a DB9 volante, or perhaps will sit on my hands until a V12 Vantage Roadster comes out.

Werent you jabbering on about me and girl cars, when you want some understated (that's British for boring) fashion accessory of a car?

Just because it doesn't scream 'loooook at meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' like a lambo doesn't mean its understated.

Every modern aston looks the same. Horizontal line with a little blip for a cockpit and a giant, shit-eating grill.

^ he's right. The DB9 is the nice one, and all the others are just shitty riced versions of it.

They still look better than 90% of cars on the road, but the DB9 is the only one I actually really like the look of.

Cheers man, but we've made off towards Cali already. In New Mexico now.

Fuck the Eos, it's too boring. That little mid-engined number they're making looks pretty cool, at least I hope they put it into production and make a properly quick version. The only roadster I want to drive is one with some balls.

Sponno or Township- I was up in canada at a sub shop and picked up a french car want ad thing cause I was bored, and there was this van in there that I can't seem to track down. I'm 95% confident it was VW, it looked like one of the 80's buses, but had a pickup bed. Those I can find online [but not late 80s], but this one was double cab, seated 5 people. Looked like a two door from the tiny pic, and get this, it was diesel and awd. Were these production or do you think it was a custom vehicle? I'll dig up the ad and post pics if you'd like.

I had a '91 VW Polo. Well made car with a surprising turn of speed (it had the G40's engine, minus the supercharger), but it had a severe rough idle problem I never got to the bottom of.

You've grown up driving mercs, love for vw's is probably difficult to understand.

And I've got good news- my jetta started! It started reeking of gas/oil after running for 1 minute, so I turned it off, but at least there's a chance I can diagnose the problem and maybe fix it.

And the bus I saw was this-

http://www.vanagon.com/ > Syncros > Syncro Photos

These things are tanks! I want to rig one with mattracks and use it like a snowcat to go snowboard backcountry!

Heh. I just got an angry phone call from the woman who bought my Polo saying it's overheated and seized.

I said to her quite clearly that it was drinking water like a thirsty elephant and you need to keep on topping it up, and if you're not happy with that, then don't buy it. Turns out she completely ignored my advice...stupid bitch. I sold it as a car which needs work.

She also had a rant at me for because the fuel tank had a slow leak - which, again, I told her very clearly before the sale that it had a big leak and was patched up, but it was leaking again slowly.

Some people...

Yeah, I sold it in early October for the grand total of £100. I mentioned all the faults to this woman, who was the first person to come and see it but she bought it anyway.

I'm going to go ahead and throw a small amount of VW hate into this thread: specifically, to the Waterboxer that comes equipped with most Vanagons.

I have a new name for it: "shitboxer".

Long story short, we have a burnt exhaust valve. Either we can try and drive home on three cylinders, or pay like $1500 for a new head.

It knows it's getting replaced by a piece of better engine, so it's throwing a tantrum :)

On the upside, I can confidently say that the engine is the only real flaw the Vanagon Westfalia has. Anybody that's going to buy one; do so, then put a subaru engine in it. Immediately. Save yourself the trouble.
