A friend and I are planning a road trip from Winnipeg to Montreal and making it out there for Canada Day (first of July for those who don't know).

This is my first time posting in this part of the forum, so maybe I don't know the regulars. Any of you live in or around Montreal? We're going with the intentions of partying and meeting new people.

Any tips or anything we should know about the night life out there? I know I'll have fun, but a little prior knowledge isn't bad.

Are you stopping along the way? have you made the drive before?

Have fun.

Great city for bars, clubs, and partying. Always a blast.

My friends and I used to go up to the downtown area all the time when we were underage to buy beer, go to bars and have awesome parties. (drinking age is lower there than Ontario) There are several cheap, but decent hotels a block over from St. Catharine's St. which is where a lot of the bars and clubs are.

We're hoping to make as little stops as possible in order to get there before 11PM the day before Canada Day. Reason being that the hostel we're staying at has a checkout time that must be met before 11.

We've never made this drive before, and I've never been on any kind of road trip except going on 3-4 hour rides to my lake or North Dakota with my family, so this is all a new experience for me.

We're planning on staying in the hostel called Auberge Montreal. It's right downtown and in walking distance of tons of bars and clubs. $23 a night, so it works out great.

Take turns driving. Get some rest while you're not driving. Long trips can become pretty exhausting and you don't want anyone falling asleep at the wheel. Switch it up frequently.

Sounds like fun.

But I guess this is proof that Americans and Canadians are equally arrogant.

If you're driving through Canada, then watch your driving along the highway between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay. It's one of the worst stretches of the TransCanada for accidents and injuries. When you go through a city in Northern Ontario, be sure to stop for gas. You might not come upon another good spot for gas for around six to eight hours.

If you're going through the US, don't forget your passports.

We'll be going through the states, but thanks for the tip!

And yeah, we were planning on doing sleep/drive trade-offs. I'll be tired from work the day we're leaving, so I'll try to get as much sleep as possible until I can't sleep anymore. Then we'll trade, and so on until we get there.

One concern, though, is that my friend has slight stomach problems. Nothing severe, but there's a special kind of tea he likes to drink which makes his stomach feel great. It's actually tea, not weed or anything. But how will the border patrol know? They'll obviously be suspicious of a couple teenage boys on a road trip. He doesn't want his teabags torn open out of suspicion. How can we avoid this?

EDIT: And like I said, we wanna meet as many different people as possible and party with as many different people as possible. Where could I find a website or something that would be able to organize something like this? People going to Montreal for Canada Day looking to party, that kinda thing? I know you can find ride shares and stuff like that. It's the same concept.

does your friends name start with an E and end with an M?

No lol... it's Mike. Reverse the order and you'd be right. Why do you ask?

They aren't going to rip the guy's teabags open, especially if they're not full of pot. If they're particularly curious, they'll probably have a dog around. If you're really concerned about the teabags, it only adds a few hours to your trip to go though Canada.

You'll meet people in the hostel and when you're out and about. You don't need a website to organize a good time.

That's perfect. That's about all I needed to hear. I know I'll have a great time. Fuck, I'm kinda drunk, sorry if this doesn't make sense. But yeah, I just don't want to add any more hours to my trip. We're leaving as early as we can and if we don't make it to the hostel by 11PM we will have to sleep in the car which kinda sucks. But thanks!

You don't sleep in the car, you just party all night! There's a park bench, girl's bed, comfy couch, or some sweet chunk of grass with your name on it.

Have fun.

If what you're looking for is to celebrate Canada day, then Montreal is probably the worse city you can pick.
The Quebec Day (St-Jean Baptiste) is celebrated on june 24th by most people so most don't care about Canada Day.

I've heard that Montreal isn't as crazy about Canada Day as most Canadian cities. Here in Winnipeg it gets pretty insane.

But I've also heard that slow day in Montreal beats party-jumping in Winnipeg any day. I'm really just going to party, whatever the occasion or lack thereof.

Thats because the French hate this country, and they hate the rest of us. They only stick around because we pump money into them, and they'd die off as their own nation.

Fixed. To be perfectly honest, most Quebeckers I've met are just like the rest of us. In fact, some of them are extra nice to compensate for the fact that outside Quebec they're probably going to be assumed to be kind of assholeish. It's just the sovereignists that ruin it for the rest, and support for that is seriously like <20-30% these days.

Scarily enough, Duceppe, leader of the Bloc Quebecois, might be the only politician in the country that I respect.

Since leaving Ontario, most of the people I've met from Quebec have been great. Back when I lived in Ontario, not so much.
