View Full Version : Tucking In Front of Shirt Only?
Occasionally I find myself at an impasse. I'll want to wear a polo, or a sweater, or a designer shirt with jeans, and although I think it looks sloppy and juvenile untucked, it looks silly if I tuck the shirt in fully. I recently have tried tucking in the front so that my belt buckle shows. The rest of the shirt sits folded loosely and naturally around my waist, and I think it looks pretty good.
All the same, I can't help but think that I might look like a douchebag. What are your thoughts?
Note that I'm not talking about some oversized, ghetto t-shirts. I'm talking about shirts that fit properly, that would usually hang and inch or two below my belt-line.

Kind of like that^, but with a nicer shirt, no sunglasses, and without the I'm-too-sexy-for-my-nutsack expression.

I think you should never tuck in tshirts into jeans, whether full or just the front. maybe if you have a really cool belt buckle and with a cool shirt, but not a tshirt.

the fact that the guy doing it is wearing an ed hardy t shirt says it all

^^ Not necessarily; I do this quite a bit myself. I might just tuck a shirt in a bit on my right hip, on the front. It doesn't look douchebag-y (at least I don't think so) and it lets you show your belt a bit. Go for it, and nevermind that Ed Hardy shirt *shudders*
Then again, nothing wrong with letting the shirt go past the beltline as it should

You look like a douchebag.
Fashion has moved one, it doesn't look at all bad to wear a polo untucked. It's in fact the proper way to do it.

if its a t shirt, just leave it loose normally, and completely tuck it when wearing something over it.
for a nice shirt, i guess whether or not you should tuck it depends on the design on it.
polos, i have no idea. i never wear them

Why would you ever half-ass something like tucking your shirt in?
As a general rule, though, I don't think you should ever tuck your tee shirts in unless it's an undershirt, because those are a lot thinner. I've run into people at malls wearing button-up shirts tucked in only into the front of their pants, and it makes them look like they're missing a good number of brain cells.

You definitely have to pick either tucked or not. It really doesn't matter, though.

Indeed, I would never half-tuck a button-up shirt. But I have some sweaters and polos that look rather strange when tucked into jeans.

I don't know, but something about tucking polos into jeans seems very Hank Hill-esque to me. Pants, fine, but jeans? Eh...

Yes, exactly! Tucking it in fully makes me feel like my dad, but not tucking it in just looks incredibly plain, if not downright sloppy. Well, I think I'll just go with what I think looks best. I have pretty good taste.

by who? the retards at the mentally impaired convention?
It sounds like it would look retarded but I'd have to see it in action. If you want to show your belt buckle and/or avoid bunching at the waist don't wear such long shirts.

Sometimes I'll only tuck in a part of my long sleeve fitted pin stripped oxfords but only if I'm rocking the unshaved disheveled look

I usually tuck it in a bit on the right side. Not right on the front, showing your belt buckle looks stupid in my eyes.
Hell, in the end you have to like what you see in the mirror.

Yes. Yes it does.
Edit: And I fucking hate the way people wear their belts like that pic, with the buckle round the side. That guy is a fucking douchebag basically.

I sometimes tuck in the left-back side of my shirt ever so slightly.
Like Wayne fucking Gretzky.

EDIT: I really don't do this, I'm not cool enough to pull it off. Plus nobody around here would get it.

I've never thought it looked good. A lot of douchebag types 'round here do it, usually to show off their big fake brand-name belt buckle.
If you have a well-fitting t-shirt, you don't look like a slob wearing it untucked.

Yeah. Shit always pissed me off when I had to wear a shirt that was 4x too big tucked in, and it would gradually come untucked, making me look like a fucking Boo-Bah character. -_-

If you purchased well-fitting clothing you wouldn't have this dilema.
