I've always felt that charring gives meat character. Makes sense to say charred varnish on gun furniture gives it character.

Just like the ratty furniture on a Romanian AK I was thinking about buying. Someone might have killed many people with that gun and it was taken from him shortly before throwing his body in a mass grave on some God-forsaken battlefield. Character, you know?

wow, that's quite a waste. It would be a shame if he threw the gun away afterward.

That video is old. At the time AK's were a dime a dozen. So what if you had to put the fire control group in a different gun.

But still what a waste of ammo:(

It would have been funny to see the barrel weakened by the heat and then fracture throwing hot shrapnel at the guy.

I just noticed that the foregrip appears to be flaming when the video starts, I've seen this before. I'm now wondering if it were lit to look like that rather than that actually happening. I guess it's possible, but scientific testing is needed, let's get a government grant so we can test this. :)

Naw look at the ground where he's dropping the spent mags... Few rounds were already put through the gun.

This video is pretty widespread, I believe the official story goes that those are post-86 AKs which means they aren't worth that much and that this guy was an SOT who didn't want to renew his license meaning he had to get rid of them somehow.

That romanian ak handguard was probably hand made by some peasant who has built guns for like 10 years and just sits in the dirt and carves stocks and hand guards.

Maybe. It looked like it had been dropped or rubbed against something rough a few times, not any carpentry marks or anything. It didn't have a lick of varnish on it, though, and it felts like it might have gotten wet a few times. Had a driftwood feel to it.

I was hoping the barrel was going to melt and blow up in his face. Then I remembered how durable AK's are. It is kind of sad to put a good and underestimated gun by American standards through such unneccessary punishment.

Trust me, the heat in the barrel @ +300 rounds >> than the heat of the flame. All he needs to do is replace the handguards and the rest of the gun should be ok.

The barrel melting or taking damage from sustained fire, however...
