Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Phenylephrine?, I've already UTFSE so no prevail.

SWIM acquired some and wants to know if there is a potential for a synch to E.

im guessing just about everybody has had experience with it, seeing as its one of the main ingredients in most OTC cold/sinus/other meds.

Well, assuming your not a troll (naive of me), there's no good way to make it E. Matter of fact, there's not even close of a good way to make E out of it. Take a look at the molecules. You might be able to make something recreational if you methylated the phenol and reduced away the B-hydroxy (or maybe oxidized to the ketone, if you're lazy), but probably not.

Believe it or not, there was a time when I didn't know the ropes, and as such I asked questions that made people think I was a troll. I also had a different alias then, which will go undeclared, but it all comes down to reading for hundreds and hundreds of hours on organic chem and the like. I wished someone could have spoon-fed me how to cook teh mefs and such, but it can't happen. Someone who knows nothing (or not enough) will always find a way to screw up even the most simple procedure. I could rant on, but I won't.

Well... You could oxidise the alcohol, allowing deprotonation at the alpha position. Methylation of the enolate then reduction of the ketone with something pokey would get you down to meta-hydroxy mef. Dunno if that'll do anything to those receptors, but maybe...

Meta-methoxy perhaps, but m-hydroxy alone is useless in the amphetamines AFAIK.
