View Full Version : Does my plant need food?
I bought a "Money Tree" a few months ago. I've just been watering it regularly and giving it sunlight when I remember (It's winter though, so the sun has been mostly hidden behind clouds). It doesn't really look all that healthy though, so...are there some sort of soil supplements I could buy?

Erm, that type of plant shouldn't be getting direct sunlight.

Why do you say that? Don't all (green) plants need direct sunlight? That's how they make food, isn't it? (Photosynthesis)

Well, as I've read, the type of plant commonly known as the "money tree" is sensitive to direct sunlight. Not like it should be kept in a basement, just not right next to a window or outdoors.

A quick google search of this money tree thing said it was a fairly versatile plant, so I don't know if it has anything to do with the amount of sunlight it's getting.
You live in Canada, right Dirt Rash?
In the winter my indoor plants don't do very well, I assume because the air is so dry with all the windows closed and the heater blaring. Get a humidifier and make sure the soil is always moist around the roots.

You could buy some fertilizer and see if there are any improvements.

I have two questions:
How often are you watering it and what exactly is wrong with it? Plants have a habit of telling you exactly whats bothering them by the manner in which they display their unhealthiness, as long as you know how to read them.
Yggdrasil, I don't know where you read that but I'd discontinue using it as a source of information if I were you; money plants are very easy to grow and in their capacity as a houseplant are tolerant of most conditions.

I have a Venus fly trap, yellow trumpet pitcher and cape sundew in my room; I now live in a fly-free environment :D
No recent pics, but I took these when i got them ~10 months ago:

The pitcher plant looks pretty wank there, but it grew at an insane rate for 6 months and by the end of the summer it had 30 cm trumpets on, literally full of flies. If you've never grown a carni plant before definately get a sundew, they're piss easy to grow and look cool when they catch a fly (not as cool as a fly trap, but you never see them catch anything unless you deliberately feed them:cool:)
Found these:

Ahh, I love venus fly traps. I had one when I was younger that did quite well, and would have done better had my little sister not touched all the mouths to make them close.
