So I used a few different methods to try and germinate some bag weed seeds just to see what I get. I put five in a glass of water, 5 in a soaked paper towel and one straight into some moist soil. But none have even the slightest signs of sprouting. How long does germination usually take? For people who germinated seeds before how long did it take yours to sprout and under what method?

your seeds are most likely just premature.
get a good seed stock and try again.

(also; some seeds can take upto 10 days to germinate..)

for me 2 - 3 days max. Method i tried and tested.

soak them in water put them in a warm dark place. If its not warm and dark they wont sprout.
other method put in wet paper town then put it in a food bag blow air in to the bag using your mouth and tie a knot in it

put it in a cool dark place and in a couple of days they will grow.
if not then i guess the seeds are fucked up.

Get good seeds like nirvana or sensi seeds: shiva shanti

You need dark, hard seeds. Pinch them in your fingers and if they crack they are no good.

You wont be able to smash a good seed between two fingers...but don't go crazy or anything.

Grab a dip can of pouches at the gas station...empty it out and clean it really good. It might smell like dip still but it will be okay just use soap and rinse well.

Put 1 wet paper towl on the bottom of the can and put the seeds in then put another soaked one on top (folded up of course).

Let it sit in a warm place (like on your computer or your cable box or TV or something) and check it daily.

You will get germed seeds if you follow all that.

Put them on a saucer and cover with damp paper towel and put some where dark.

I too was going to say if a seed can be crushed between the fingers, it would never germinate.

Once you really get the hang of it, you can scratch start seeds. By gently using sandpaper on them, you remove a little of the out shell, meaning the seed takes up water easier and the sprout can break through the shell easier.

It really is trial and error before you get the hang of scratching seeds.

I have seen some seeds sprout in 2 days, some up to 14 days.

It should only take a couple days for them to start sprouting. Just be patient, if they are a nice dark brown they should sprout. Growing plants isn't exactly a fast paced hobby, just give them some time.

You need fluorescent light, incandescent will not work and will provide too much heat.

The wrap will be used to retain moisture until they are a little older and mature.

Keep the soil moist, but allow it to cycle between waterings. Don't just keep it soaked.

A spray mister is great for the babes.

The heat on bottom of the plant is helpful, but may become too hot if heat gets trapped, and after they mature and no longer need the wrap, they do not need the added heat, unless it is cold where you are.

I do not.

When I was in reception, 4 or 5 years old, we learned how to germinate seeds in damp paper towels and grow them.

Make a thread about your "grow" Brocoli if/when you make it that far.
