The UK government has absolutely no power over the Canadian government. I believe the Queen is head of state of Canada, but like with Australia/New Zealand etc. those titles are all separate. She's little more than a figurehead in any country, plus I don't think any country except the UK actually pays her any money (could be wrong on that).
What's wrong with socialism anyway, it's got to be preferable to the neoliberalism proliferated by America which keeps 90% of the world's wealth under the control of less than a tenth of one percent of it's population.

I never had a problem with socialism. It just seems that there is a sort of 'dependence'.

Nah, the Queen has no powers whatsoever - theoretically it is the Queen's government etc. but it's purely ceremonial. She used to be able to block new laws from being passed (in Westminster only - not in any former colonies) but I think she can't even do that now.
We keep her over here because she brings in a few million in tourist revenue (Japs and Americans especially seem to love that shit), we toss her a few million a year to keep her expenses covered but she earns her keep :).

But atleast on average Canadians know a thing about international law, and you won't find a Canadian who believes Latino is a race, or doesn't know that latinos can consist of Whites, Blacks, Asians and anyone in South America, nor will you find someone who believes Mediterraneans are Black or Latino.
Never was my whiteness questioned by the average Canadian, like it is on a daily basis by most of America's ethnic groups who believe being Caucasian = Having blue eyes and blonde hair.
