I just started to get into the guitar and i was wondering if there was any tips on what i should be playing to increase my playing ability. I am already practicing at least and hour a day

Learn pentatonic major and minor scales, and practice hammer-ons and pull-offs. Sweep-picking and tapping and shredding and all that comes later in the game. For now just work on getting a feel for the fretboard and recognizing where specific notes are. Playing with a metronome helps keep you in time as well.

Also I think this post is pretty helpful but everyone seems to want to discuss the technicalities of it rather then learn.
