Camping is awesome. Though be careful, dude. The middle of the woods is not my choice place for being drunk.

Last time I was out (2 weeks) we camped in an area near a farm where the owners would let people use the land, and facilities like toilets and running water for a small fee charged per day, and shower charged per minute.
The reason is that we were 7, of which only two should be considered actually capable of sustaining life for an extended duration of time without any "help" from the outside, and it was fairly close to an area we came to climb the snot out of with challenges for the novice as well as the experienced climber.
Unless I'm on vacation I rarely have the time to stay out for longer than a couple of days, but when given the chance usually do so in either remote (as remote as you can get in DK) areas, or on military training grounds as we won't be overrun by Joe Average and his noisy and annoying family, ruining my fishing trip, or otherwise scarin' every tiny bit of wildlife miles away...
Personally I'd prefer to be as far away from civilization as possible but not everyone in the team would be able to handle it, or actually enjoy having to adapt 100% to this uncommon situation, so I'll have to accept some compromises and get the most out of the trip in my own way.

The tiniest hole in the floor of your tent will cause seepage of rain-water in overnight... and I mean even a pinhole... so check the site of your tent for sharp pebbles, twigs or anything else that might be able to poke through over time. Nobody likes to be woken in the middle of the night wondering why their bedding is soaked.

^^Wouldn't say it's that bad but I'll agree it's a good idea to remove potentially annoying rocks and sticks before you put up your tent...
But why not simply get off the ground?
I've been camping since I was a kid and I'm closer to 35 than 30 these days, so I do have some experience in staying operational even if weather is trying to screw me over - on my last trip with a couple of friends and my girlfriend we had one tent flooded, and one tent saved by a couple of ponchos (but damp and pretty inhospitable), the only dry place was my hammock despite fairly strong winds in the evening/night, and a 24 hour downpour...
Get off the ground!

Except when there's no tree around.
What hammock do you use/recommend?

SHARP and I both use the Amazon Mosquito Traveller Hammock.

We have both modded them slightly and he uses a bigger tarp as cover where I use standard army ponchos. Each hammock weighs only 500g/1lbs and in case there are no trees it is possible to set them up on the ground as tents.

put a tarp down underneath your tent for extra insurance against sharp things
