Who got into this show first season? Honestly I think it's the best show on cable television. I'm probably biased though, due to my love for drugs and chemistry. The first season got cut short to 7 episodes because of the writer strike. It was such a let down, there wasn't even any formal announcement. They just started running reruns.
For anyone that hasn't heard of it, it's about a high school chemistry teacher named Walt who gets diagnosed with cancer. The cancer changes his outlook on life, and transforms him from an awkward older guy into a complete badass. He starts cooking meth to save up money for treatments and to leave his family something in the case he dies. His partner is an old student of his. He knows the chemistry, and his student knows the street connects and such. His knowledge in chemistry comes in handy a lot throughout the show, whether they're disposing of bodies in corrosive acid, making explosives, or incapacitating people with chemical fumes.
Walt is played by the same guy who plays Hal in Malcolm in the Middle. It was so strange at first to see him play such a drastically different role.

New season starts March 8th, and I can't fucking wait. If you plan on checking it out, I'd recommend watching the first season first. It's only seven episodes.

When I first heard about it I knew I had to watch it. I watched the first episode the first time it came on, and I thought it was an amazing show. Sadly though, I kept missing the next episodes that came on, and just forgot about it. Definitely going to have to download the first season now, thanks for reminding me.

At first I reallly dug it. Like, I'd actually watch it on TV which its pretty unusual for me. The first couple episodes we're pretty amazing but then it just started tanking, as a chemist it started to feel ridiculous. From breaking into the chem supplier to some of the more bullshit chemistry, the writers seemed to skimp on their research more and more toward the later episodes.
Shiiit, methylamine (what they stole) has gotta be some of the easiest shit to make. Jus' heat up some hexamine fuel tablets in hydrochloric acid, both of which you can find in a hardware store.
And it ended so abruptly? Short fucking season.
Nevertheless I'm REALLY excited for the second season. Maybe they'll redeem themselves.

03-05-2009, 02:30 PM
Fuck yeah. I can't wait three more days!
But I unfortunately don't have satellite anymore, so I don't have the channel (AMC I think) it was on last season. Anybody know if it's on any other (cable) channels? Or just AMC and I should just watch it online?
King Owl

some of the more bullshit chemistry
The chemistry seemed pretty spot-on for the most part, technically at least, whilst an actual clan lab would have done things differently the info was still chemically accurate, what little there was of it... To be honest it smelt like the writers were reading SOMAM for most of their research :)
But yeah, the season was short, and probably the research slackened off because IIRC that was when the writer's strike kicked in.

Yeah I got it with Star Choice when I was living with my parents, but I don't have satellite anymore, so I'm hoping it plays on cable. Other than that, I haven't seen it on any other channel.

Naw you're right, it was mostly the methylamine bit that got to me. He was a chem teacher for fucks sake, even my horribly funded high school store room had a couple gallons of hexamine and HCl.
Ha, I bet they were reading Fester... You remember how he made P2P? I can't 'n it's been bugging me. :p

Fuck's sake, the chemistry doesn't need to be 100% accurate or efficient. What scene would you rather see, Walt walking through a hardware store, buying some shit, and then heating it up or whatever the process is, or would you rather see them break into a chemical storage building?

Keep in mind the school chem lab was under watch already. Stealing more supplies was out of the question. And buying large quantities of hexamine and hydrochloric acid in a town with such an obvious meth problem would have probably raised a red flag. For the amount of meth they're going to be cooking, stealing the supplies in bulk was their best shot. Not to mention it made for a better story line.

One thing I caught, it was revealed that Gonzo wasn't murdered, he got crushed by the shifting weight of the cars when he was trying to dispose of that other dudes body. But I watched the beginning again when they replayed it, and he returns to Tuko after disposing of the body
As soon as Walt mentioned castor beans I knew they were going to be making ricin. Thanks totse!
I predict that Hank will turn crooked and start helping out Walt sometime this season. He just doesn't seem to take his job all that seriously.

I've been waiting to find out when the australian dvd release is set for to buy a copy of it, but I haven't looked in a while to see when it's out though. Fuck, so I just downloaded S2E1, and decided I might as well download the whole first season too while I'm at it. And my roommate walked in and asked what I was downloading. I showed him the first episode of season one, and he's hooked right away. So I told him I'll wait until he's watched the first season before I start season two. The leaked episodes are amazing. Episode 2 is every exciting, with a great twist ending. The third Episode sets up a new arc.
I only hope episode 4 gets leaked out soon!
The protagonist is as tense as his sidekick is loose. Walt, the hero is stoic and keenly intelligent, and his young partner in crime is street smart and goofy.
The BADASS dealer who buys their home brew is satisfyingly bad. (bad to the bone).
I can hardly wait for the next episolde.:eek

Holy shit, episode two was fucking insane. That old dude made it pretty intense when they were eating that supper, that would of tripped me the fuck out. I can't wait to see what happens with Hank at that house. He's got to find all of Walt and Jesse's wallets and keys and shit when he goes in there, and assume that they're both dead. I know episode three's out there, but I'll probably just wait and watch it next week or something.

It took me awhile at first to realize it was the same guy. I pride myself in the fact that I've said for years that Bryan Cranston is one of the most talented people on television after watching him on Malcolm. It's good to see him in another truly great show that continues to use his talents.

He also played a dentist in a few episodes of Seinfeld. But I agree that he's a great actor, he has great comedic timing, the character of Hal just kept getting better and better on MitM. Great actor.

He says fulminated mercury, more commonly known as mercury fulminate. Stuff's fairly easy to synth if you have access to the chemicals. You just have the noxious fumes to worry about. That and the obvious sensitivity of the finished product. You'd have to have a death wish to handle the amount Walt had in that bag.
Also keep in mind that this is Hollywood, the explosion was greatly exaggerated.

At this point it seems to be something that's haunting him, and having a big reminder of it sitting around on his desk all day probably isn't going to help him get over it.
He killed a man, not a deer. Whether or not the guy was a good person or not is irrelevant, he took a human life. It's not something most people would revel in, and certainly not something a well-adjusted human being would want to have a trophy of.
I think throwing it in the river was just an attempt at trying to move past it. It was obviously a traumatic ordeal for him, and getting rid of those "teeth" was symbolic wanting to put it behind him.

I don't think it's just about killing the guy either, I think he's still probably shaken from having almost died. I mean, he acts tough but I'm willing to bet that was the first balls to the wall shootout he's ever really been in. Keep in mind that Jesse isn't the smartest kid and that he's in a situation of great stress. Him wiping the fingerprints off things was more for comic effect than anything else.

Try searching around The Pirate Bay or Demonoid or your torrent site of choice for something along the lines of "Breaking Bad Season 1" or even just "Breaking Bad." You'd be hard pressed to not find anything.

They aren't going to find fingerprints. It was a drug house lol. The kid just walked in the living room and ignored him. God only knows how many people are in and out of houses like that.
I didn't like the episode last night. I was expecting this season to be one of them really being a badass. Walter has his head shaved, and he doesn't look like a pussy teacher anymore, and he only has so much time to live. I thought he was going to be bad this season. Jesse is a pussy, and his friends are retards. Walter is the only one who's even killed anyone.
I dont know though, I did like parts of last nights episode. But Jesse should have killed them.
Maybe. The sledgehammer, possibly inside the ATM machine itself. The kid as well may start talking.

Yeah, involving dumb ass meth addicts like Badger and Skinny Pete in the operation can only mean trouble. Hopefully Jesse can step it up a notch and show those fools who's boss. That's what it looked like was about to happen at the end of the last episode and in the previews for the next.
Still not quite sure why hank threw Tuco's grill into the river at the end of the last episode. Symbolism I'd assume, hopefully the next episode brings this to light.
Yeah, it's like Jesse set himself up to be surrounded by three wolves.
EDIT: Someone already said what I said.

Jesse isn't going to kill anybody just yet seeing as he's pretty much the lone meth dealer of his town and needs to lay low. Nonetheless, I think he's going to be looked for by the cops considering he left the broken window as an obvious sign of breaking and entering. I doubt he'll be charged for Spooge's murder though because he didn't leave finger prints on the ATM where it was pushed onto him.
Sopio
04-14-2009, 01:58 AM
Well, the basic formula is kind of that Jesse is the one with the street-smarts yet Walt ironically ends up being the one who kills someone or whatever. At the same time, Jesse always whines about Walt going to far. He's a thuggish character but he's kind of a pussy (not really in a bad way).

He should have took the sledgehammer.
Although, remember when Jesse said something about that guy robbing the ATM that he uses frequently? and then the crackhead was like "FDIC INSURED LOL"
If they found prints on the machine itself.

I thought this episode was fucking awesome, pretty intense in a few parts. My buddies think that the bills in the ATM are marked, and that's going to fuck them over, but I don't really see why they'd mark bills in a random ATM. Jesse made some dumb mistakes, but it made for a crazy episode.

I think last nights episode was amazing. Everything from Jesse trying to hit on his landlord, "so your a drawer?" to that exploding tutle with a severed head on top of it! I think Hank's, Walt's, and Skyler's storylines are all going to connect some how.
And I liked the band at the start. More foreshadowing? I think so.

Hank's going to have to start piecing things together soon. I thought he was going to get it when Badger said Heisenberg was an older dude with no hair. Especially since he knows that glassware was stolen from Walt's chemistry lab, and how strangely he's been acting lately.

He has no problems with his kleptomaniac wife. Maybe he has no problem with Walt given his situation.
The storyline can go so many different ways from here. I love it.
Saul is a great addition. "He's not a criminal lawyer....he's like....a...criminal, lawyer." haha
Saul mentioned a cartel of some sort. Maybe that's how Walt and Jesse will make more money.

Walt talks about the need to cook several days in a row. Possibly walts family is gone for a few days and they use his house for cooking resulting in a explosion?...or a cartel bombing.

I only got into this show a couple of weeks ago. Haven't watched any of Season2 yet-am still working my way through Season One. I'll watch S0107 tonight with any luck.
This has to be one of the best shows to come out of the US ever. Although it did threaten to lose it in the middle of Season one with too much concerntration on Walt's interaction with Skyler (who desperately needs some domestic violence). But E05 and E06 pulled it back from the brink.
Having a cerebral palsy teenage kid myself I can really relate to it. The bit where Walt goes ninja on the the bullies in the clothes store, that was classic!
This is the sort of drama that America does so well but so seldom these days.

Decent episode, but the most intense parts were the first two minutes where they expanded on the sketchy intros lately, and the last two minutes.
It's fucking killing me trying to figure out what's going on in those black and white intros, with the pink bear. They showed two body bags, but I don't think it'll be Walt and Jesse who end up in them, that'd be too predictable for this series, IMO.
And god damn Walt keeps getting more and more badass with every episode. "Back off my territory" literally made me jump out of my chair and yell "ooooohhhhhh shiiiiiiiitttt!". My family hates when I watch Breaking Bad, because it's the only show that'll make me do that other than like Dexter.

Why was Walt looking so smug after he saw him son puke?
I think he caused the whole thing because a. frustration at shit not going to plan (he was supposed to die and leave his family the money, and soon, also the reason for him punching the shit out of the thing in the bathroom last episode)or b. realising his life will be/already is more boring after getting out of the business, so he caused some drama/excitement and was happy about it. Also it seems like he likes controlling stuff, making his son drink, arguing with Hank, so he might have been smug about being in control of a little thing like that since he's got the prospect of not being in control of his business any more.
It obviously looks like Walt's decided not to get out of it though, but I don't know what he's going to do with the money since his plan was to leave it after he died (I think he said he was going to make sure his mother was going to leave something for Skyler, even though he didn't actually go and see her that might have been his plan, I'm not really sure on that though).
Oh yeah and I'm not surprised Walt Jr. threw up either :p those weren't shots, I don't think he drinks much, and they were in quick succession.

That was the best episode this season.
We'll be waiting more than MONTHS though. It took more than a year for this season to come out. I think last season ended in like early April if I remember right.
I hope Walt ends up getting up with the other guy. That could be interesting. The show wouldn't be as good without Jesse, or at least someone like him. That blowfish conversation was the best. But if they were doing that to me, I would most likely kill them too. And Walt is the real badass in my opinion. I would like to see him turn into a kingpin. But I laughed when Jesse started smoking meth again, because he used to, and the show was good back then. But him and his girlfriend are real junkies now.
The wait won't be as long this time, last season was cut in half pretty much by the writer's strike. But it will be a long fucking wait.

Walt was really freaking out at the end. It was making me nervous. I don't really think Jesse deserved getting bich slapped and his house broke into, even if he was being unreliable. The man deserves a vacation.
I don't think i like Skylar anymore. I don't think they'll kill her because she is a core reason for the whole premise of the show, but maybe they should replace her with a better/less ugly actress.
RIP Combo. Jesse's crew were pretty funny while they lasted (what about 5 episodes lol). I wonder if we'll ever see Badger or Skinny Pete again.

i really hope walt and jesse stay partners.
i dont care what anyone says, the show just wouldnt be the same without those two working together, and i think it would loose lots of intrest if walt got a new partner or something. aaron paul is one of my favorite actors, i think he is perfect for a drug adict,
anyone see him play in the mtv movie wasted? as a heroin adict?
and as for the new kingpin there dealing with? anyone else not like him like me?
cant put my finger on it but i dont like him for some reason.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. The two shows are pretty similar in premise, but they're also pretty different. The meth "scene" vs the weed "scene" are some pretty huge differences, but both shows are about a parent selling drugs to help their family. I haven't watched Weeds for a while, but I've found Breaking Bad to be a lot more entertaining.

Nancy is pretty much guaranteed to be full frontal naked in the up coming season. I love both these shows in their own way, but there are just certain things that Nancy can provide that Walt can't (i.e. titties)
Of course in a head to head brute force battle royal I'd have to say Walt would chemistry the shit out of Nancy.

Something MAJOR will happen at the finale that will leave me craving more Breaking Bad like a hardcore meth addict in a dry spell while we wait for the new season. A recurring character with a role will die. If not, my other theory is that Beneke's company gets busted and Skylar's name is involved somehow even if she says she wants nothing to do with it. My friend's theory, which I think is a complete long shot with no real possibility of it actually happening, is Walt finds out about Skylar and Beneke and goes apeshit.
The most logical and slightly predictable thing to happen is Hank gets new information and he begins to suspect Walt is Heienberg.
I believe the body bags might not have anything to do with the season 2 finale. We don't know when that actually happens. Just like the Mexican band singing about Heisenberg having a hit on him and not knowing it. I think (all speculation with no evidence to back me up) that is related to events that will unfold next season and nothing right now.
Just my thoughts.

Just my thoughts. I think that the exact opposite will happen. The song intro is foreshadowing what happens in the last 2 episodes, the thing with the pink bear and the hazmat at walts house.
Cartel members find out that walt is heisenberg, try to blow up his house but 2 people get killed in the crossfire while walt is safe.
But then again, the cartels could be a huge subplot line in the third season and their hunt for walt.

Skylar is probably going to be fucking her boss after she gives birth becuase Walt has no interest in her used, worn out, hag body. Then Walt blows them the fuck up with the home self destruct device he built after he installed the water heater. Hopefully Walt "Gilbert" Jr dies too somehow.

That's what I thought, it's getting harder to see Walt as a sympathetic character or a protagonist (which I'm sure is on purpose). It'll be interesting to see if Walt ends up totally corrupting his own soul, so to speak, or if he can still turn back.

Getting $400k+ in donations would look very suspicious to the IRS. They might track the individual accounts and at least figure out that they're all fake people. Jane was clearly his enemy, and was still threatening to blackmail him/ruin his life. Plus she was bad for Jesse. He didn't kill her (he just didn't save her when he could have) and i don't think he has blood on his hands. He's going to have trouble sleeping at night for a few days but Walt will be alright.

So I was watching the previews for the season finale.
Here are some things I noticed :
Walt is in surgery prep and they give him the anastesia, and he is dazed and skylar asked him if he brought his cell phone and walt says "which one?"...She looks shocked.
Jesse is in the hospital ? maybe he overdosed or tried to kill himself after jane died?
Walt was fishing a bag of blue meth out of the toilet tank, I guess its the same one with the ricin? Maybe somebody needs to be dealt with. Janes father maybe?
Walt is standing near the pool looking at the pink bear floating.
There was another preview where Hank is having a meeting having donations for walts surgery,he holds up a jar with walts face and in the background it says WANTED. I guess the next season will give walt some problems with the DEA maybe? it seems as if they are going to try extra hard to find heisenberg.
EDIT: possibly a scene at the airport

I just re watched the episode and Jane actually was sleeping on her side before Walt started shaking Jesse trying to wake him. Then she rolled on to her back and started to choke. And earlier in the episode she had warned Jesse not to sleep on his back , to prevent the exact thing from happening to him that happened to her later on. Awesome writing .
So actually Walt not only did nothing to save her, but might have caused her to choke in the first place. Jane was a bitch but upon reflection i don't think she was all that evil , and certainly didn't deserve to go out like that. I hated how she thought she was entitled to Jesses money, when she did nothing to earn it.
