There's no statute on these kinds of sex crimes now, but there was, and the crimes committed during the period when there was a statute cannot be retroactively prosecuted. Their best bet now is to dig in really hard on this fucker's friends, acquaintances, previous workmates, associates of any kind, then try to pin a sex crime on him that was committed after the statute was done away with. With the judge knowing about the case he got off on, he'll probably get the maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
