Zoklet rebranding

Here is a post I made over a year ago, and I think that suggestion still has merit today, as Zoklet still remains just Zok's personal forum in the eyes of people and we are getting barely any new members.
As it is, Zoklet is not targeting ANYONE.

It doesn't appeal to the "underground hacker"-type people that are after pure information, raw data for raw nerves. Totse did that perfectly - it was backed by Jeff's ideology, which is evident from the numerous texts he wrote on NirvanaNET, and its history. Whenever you stumbled on &T, it was evident from the first moment that that place was not like the rest, it just had that feel to it carried on from the late 80s early 90s.

It doesn't appeal to the general "facebook" population either - commercial message boards (and, indeed, facebook) target these kinds of people much better than Zoklet does. Hence a teenage girl looking for relationship advice is not going to go to Zoklet, she would go to one of the commercial message boards.

So in a nutshell, it doesn't have a target audience. As a result, the places that do have a target audience steal those people, meaning that this place gets no new members. Yet people leave this community all the time - that's natural for any community, no matter how good it is - and as a result, this community will inevitably stagnate and die.

You know what's wrong with &T.info ???? It began with the day you abandon Jeff's FAQ made made a version of your own. A version where hijacking is a capital offense and post and thread deletion runs rampant ....

People who remember TOTSE * havent been on the site in YEARS would look up the site & find out most of the population went to Zoklet & followed people there. It's a backup site of TOTSE that gained some new culture on its' own and from the *chan influence. Most of the people here at least heard of TOTSE & probably posted on TOTSE

EDIT: and people looking for textfiles who didnt end up on textfiles.org or whatever that site was.

EDIT 2: The posting on this site still has an 'underground' mentality that is a holdover from old TOTSE e.g. the drug boards & discussions on raves & 'hippie fests', but due to stuff like degredation of the userbase & color schemes it seems (or actually is) not as strong.

You're an idiot. No one is ignoring Jeff's FAQ. the forums FAQ is always different and there were no moderations guides included in the FAQ before. Since we're redoing things the FAQ will be fixed and it will be reimplemented again.

And the Totse diaspora is a constantly diminishing resource. I mean, now we have probably reached a steady state, and we've already seen some of the best/better known contributors leave - with nobody to replace them.

It's one thing when you hear of something called "Totse", go to the website and find out it's "& the Temple of the Screaming Electron", there's tons of interesting information on there, it's been around for longer than you, and it is just so different from the rest of the web, and it's run by a guy that might just as well be a character from "The Matrix", except real - nobody knows who he is, he has kept his identity secret for 20 years, all that we know is his NirvanaNET philosophy and that he goes by the alias "Jeff Hunter".

Compared to seeing "Zoklet" somewhere, going to a wesbite, and finding out it's Zok's personal web site and his forum, on which he's an admin. And he collects some weird text files from his friends or something? He's also a student somewhere in Ohio, I think. Cool site bro, "close tab", move along.

...And say it got reported in the news. "One of Zok's friends hacked a street sign, and posted about it on his personal message board".

What is Zoklet's philosophy? It's "Raison d'être"? Anyone who stumbles on zoklet.net would say, "Does it have one? I mean, it's the guy's personal web page, I guess it's for him to keep in touch with his friends, why doesn't he just use facebook get with the times buddy, lol"

So in the end .... it all boils down to the FAQ and Zok himself. This site is queer becos Zok himself is queer. And in his queerness, was unable to make an FAQ that will concisely and clearly define what this site is all about. Nobody knows what this site is all about. TBH, I don't even know what this site is about.

Jeff had made it very clear in his FAQ that &T was about freedom of speech and freedom of information. And had made rules and regulations that regulate the moderateurs that moderate the regulars inline, and supporting and upholding what the site .... &T stood for.
