I have always had a dream of getting an AR-15 (the ones that are legal in Canada semi auto or burst or w/e) and getting it to shoot .22LR's, nothing to hardcore blow your head off kind of gun just something cool and nifty.
Questions:
1. how hard is it to get liscened in Canada, I hear it takes up a year before I can pet my gun at home.
2. Do I have to keep taking tests or like deal with the some government agency periodically after I get it, or is it a done deal after I get it.
3. AR-15's are awesome ?
4. Will i be allowed to use the rifle for self defence in my home or is it only for recreational target shooting and gay shit like that.

Damn, if only HIFH were here. That guy had over 100 guns in Canada including AR-15's.
He didn't seem to have a problem getting licenses, even for the "restricted" category, which included AR-15's. It was just a matter of waiting for the red tape to clear.
You have to renew periodically by taking a test, but apparently the test is laughably easy.

Oh and I believe deadly force for self defense is legal in Canada, but only in defense of one's life.
Go find a range and meet some of the people there. They'll let you play with their silly little death toys and you won't have to buy one.

That's because Hell is for Heroes was a phony; a fifteen year old child role-playing on the internet with pictures that weren't his own, did none of you ever catch that?

You have to renew every five years. If you don't let it expire I don't think you have to redo test.
Once you have it you still need to register any firearms you buy.
Handguns are different, the only reason to own a handgun in Canada is for target shooting (according the Gov't) so you'll need a transport tag thing anytime you need to move it.
3. AR-15's are awesome ?
Not a fan.
4. Will i be allowed to use the rifle or self defence in my home or is it only for recreational target shooting and gay shit like that.[/QUOTE
You have a duty to retreat AFAIK in Canada.

I have a feeling ARs will be littering the streets soon.
You can probably just come over to Detroit on a boat, pick one out of some cold dead hands, then get back on the boat ;)
For shooting someone in "Self Defense" there's two things that apply in Canada... He's trying to kill you with a weapon and one shot one kill.
If you shoot them multiple times expect the courts to say you over did it or some shit... If he lives expect to be sued by him for medical damages or some other BS.
I was told this by a cop buddy before I had my firearms, both above and below...
"Say he tripped and fell off the fire escape... Make sure he lands on his head..."

It's easy to get your PAL. You take a one day course for the non-restricted and another for the restricted. Then you send fill out the forms and get a pic taken and send it in with eighty bucks and you get it in about a month and a half. If you don't let your licence expire you never need to take the test again. And if you do let it expire the SWAT team might kick down your door and arrest you and take your guns.
You take non-restricted guns home minutes after you pay for them. Restricted guns(ARs and Handguns) take somewhere from minutes to days to get transferred to you. But if you live in Ontario The gun clubs have illegally been given the power to make you do a separate club safety course and go through a probationary period before you can have an ATT or buy a restricted. Some clubs are run by assholes that make this take a long time.
There is no duty to retreat anywhere in Canada. You may use any reasonable force to defend yourself. You may use any necessary force to keep someone out of your home. But if you shoot someone in self defence expect to be arrested charged with murder and improper storage of your firearm. It will be very expensive to clear your name.

HIFH had an assload of ARs. I think Canada is lucky in one aspect regarding AR ownership and that is that an SBR is just counted as a pistol since Canadians can have stocks on their pistols.
Canada also has somethings we don't (anymore) such as cheap Chinese weapons (try buying an M14 for $400 here) and I think they have the Tavor as well.

Well in the canadian justice system, we dont have the "self defence" option.

We do have Tavors. But they don't make M305s anymore so you can't get them for 400 anymore(Marstar never takes stuff off their site). And on a non semi auto you can put a really short barrel on it. You can buy eight inch barrels for you 870s here. And open bolt guns.
