"Badass" women in movies that are actually badass

It seems like whenever a movie promises to have "badass chix" who are finally going to show the true meaning of GIRL POWAR YAY they pussy out and just make them sexy, as though the only way a women can conquer the world is with her tits out. It's beyond a joke, for every Sarah Connor there's a thousand Catwomen (specifically the Halle Berry one). And it isn't just patronising to women, it's patronising to men, "These are tits and you like tits so you won't notice that we've replaced a decent three-dimensional character with totally rockin' tits."
I've been thinking a bit and the only strong women in movies that haven't made me want to cringe are:

- Sarah Connor from the Terminator series (I haven't seen Chronicles so I don't know if they f-ed that up with some sexy reimagining or stayed true)

- Ellen Ripley from the Alien series.

That's all I've got. I don't think it's that Hollywood is full of sexist morons, I think it's that it's full of lazy cunts. Erm, discuss.

It needs to be a combination of good screenwriting and a very strong actress to get that kind of character- for example, I believe Sigourney Weaver got her masters at the Yale school of drama so she knows how to play intent like she means it without coming off like a cliche girl in an action premise.

I'd say Michelle Pfeiffer did well in her version of catwoman- although it's not the typical strong woman role in that film, she played it well enough that the character was a force to be reckoned with.
