View Full Version : Keeping lenses stuck together. Superglue is not the answer.

Here's the deal:

I have these old lenses from some prescription glasses I wore about a year ago.
The frames are useless to me but the lenses are intact. So I superglued them behind some sunglasses that have the same shape lenswise.

But the Superglue doesn't keep them together.

So I'm thinking, some other epoxy glue?

superglue should work. maybe youre using too much?

but epoxy, being much more thick, will definitely work.

However, im not sure if what youre doing is very wise. by gluing the lenses behind sunglasses, the lenses will be about 1 or 2 mm closer to your eye than it should be. it may affect the performance of the lenses

Well the frames are shot, I just didn't want the lenses to go to waste, but I don't feel like buying a new pair of frames for some outrageous amount of cash.

Try epoxy glue or JB weld. Make sure you rough up the surfaces a bit with some fine sandpaper first, and clean them with rubbing alcohol. That will get a better bond.

I hope you know that you're lenses are going to be made blurry by the glue if you are gluing them to another set of lenses. You are prettu much ruinging a set of lesnes unless you are only hitting the perimater of the lense.

So what material are both lenses (sunglases and prescription) made out of?

Check out this site: http://www.btinternet.com/~jhpart/bkspecs2.htm

Some British engineer fed up with paying a lot for glasses made a pair himself with his prescription lenses and a pair of old sunglasses.
