Just wanted to share some resources.
The first is an audiobook in podcast form - Lloyd deMause's 'The Origins of War in Child Abuse', read by Stefan Molyneux from Freedomain Radio.

This goes into how the often incredibly traumatic formative experiences of children, particularly in the west, contribute to causing war and various social problems. For instance beatings and sexual abuse used to be common, and children used to be sent to wet-nurses, some of which where around 75% died. Infantacide used to be common right up to modern times - not a problem in the age before contraception.
The Second is Dan Carlin's Hardcore History.

This podcast is simply superb, and, again, some episodes go into the impact of child abuse on forming deeply traumatised adults, others deal with slavery, there is also an excellent history of the East front of WW2 (the only front that mattered).
