It's a feature on like every other forum; it allows you to better reflect the content of the thread, when new posts by the OP are made or new information is released.

Good idea actually, i know i have to go back and fix typos pretty often in my own threads.

Great idea OP. Now you just have to get all of the forums moderators on board with your idea.

I've already changed my thread titles a couple of times here. Am I missing something?

I don't see why not. Deleting threads was what annoyed the higher-ups, changing the name doesn't sound like a problem.

Well we can all agree not annoying the higher ups should take precedence over what any community member might want to do with his own content.

You can edit the OP and edit the thread title, but if others have already responded to the thread with the first title, their posts still have it as a Post Title. Same thing if a post with the old thread title is quoted. I'm not sure, does it even change how the thread title looks outside of the thread?

You have to actually use Edit Thread to be able to edit the thread title and have it work right.

so regular users can already do it?

shrike, try that let us know if it works for you please.

Yeah it does work, sorry. I thought you couldn't- you have to make sure to go into advanced mode when you edit the OP.

I hate when people change the thread title. It's annoying as all fuck.

Huh, now it isn't working again. I tried to change the title on my dropbox thread and all it changes is the post title, not the thread title. And I definitely went to advanced mode.

Maybe it's time-limited or something?

Edit: yeah I just tested it on this thread, I think it must be time-limited. That's fucking retarded.

Where is "edit thread"? There is no such thing. You try and edit the title of the op, and that should change the title of the thread, at least it would in a non-retarded forum.

I like how you're trying to bash the site but you're just coming of as stupid.

If there are no posts in the thread, only the OP, you can edit the thread title in advanced mode and it'll change the title. Once someone posts, you can't. Get it? This is to prevent confusion.

What's the point, then?

Ok. So can we un-"completed" this thread, because it's been established that you can only edit your thread title if nobody has posted in it. Which is stupid, and not what I want.

And as to "preventing confusion", the picture thread's title was changed by mods like a million times and people still found and posted in it fine.

ok..not saying it's gonna happen, but i'll ask fish to poke his head in and we'll see if there's a reason behind it being set up that way, or if it's jsut "no one ever cared enough to change the setting"

Just to clear things up, he's not coming "of" as stupid, you are coming off as a prick. ;) God forbid some community member doesn't understand every facet of your vbulletin frankenstein right away.

After creating a thread, you can go to the section it's in and double click in the box that surrounds the title. This opens a text box where the title was, allowing it to be edited and saved. It's time limited though.

zombo.com
01-21-2011, 05:14 AM
that's always worked for me, but mods probably aren't time limited. as long as it doesn't get abused i don't see why not (except that someone will immediately abuse the fuck out of it).

Still doesn't seem like a huge deal either way though.
