A canny chimpanzee who calmly collected a stash of rocks and then hurled them at zoo visitors in fits of rage has confirmed that apes can plan ahead just like humans, a Swedish study said Monday. Santino the chimpanzee's anti-social behavior stunned both visitors and keepers at the Furuvik Zoo but fascinated researchers because it was so carefully prepared.

According to a report in the journal Current Biology, the 31-year-old alpha male started building his weapons cache in the morning before the zoo opened, collecting rocks and knocking out disks from concrete boulders inside his enclosure. He waited until around midday before he unleashed a "hailstorm" of rocks against visitors, the study said.
"These observations convincingly show that our fellow apes do consider the future in a very complex way," said the author of the report, Lund University Ph.D. student Mathias Osvath. "It implies that they have a highly developed consciousness, including lifelike mental simulations of potential events."

If I were locked in a cage and being gawked at every day by faggot tourists, I would throw rocks as well.

It's not about throwing rocks, it's about Chimps having the ability to foresee events, and to prepare for them accordingly.
We treat chimps so badly, I reckon Chimps have a conscience and thought similar to us, albeit not as evolved or advanced.

I totally agree with you.

In all seriousness, Chimps, and all other creatures on this planet should be considered a lot more intelligent than we consider them to be. Take deep ocean for example, we barely know anything about it because our machines can't cope with the tremendous pressure yet there are millions of organisms that live and survive, when we on the other hand couldn't even handle the pressure of being down there.
What I'm trying to say is that we should consider creatures more carefully when studying them. Animals do amazing things when you take the time to observe them. Some people even manage to train creatures you'd think impossible to tame. Yet, they do.
We should stop looking at the world so scientifically and maybe more biologically, perhaps we would come to understand them better.
I mean, does it really strike anyone as something amazing that chimps are able to plan ahead?

Exactly. Humans tend to think other lifeforms are incapable of complex thought, probably due to their inability to communicate their thoughts to us. Just look at planet of the apes. In order to seem intelligent, they were given human speech/language, clothing, and other human like accouterments.

The chimpy chappy may have been having a spot of the constipation. Thus his stockpiling of the rocky non-comestibles would show the ability to improvise off the cuff.

It would also be more 'intelligent' if you could spell words like 'their' and 'resourceful' properly.
Edit, oh and 'Wouldn't', you fucking moron.
Edit 2: Were you dropped on your fucking head as a child, or did you get the sniffles when you were eight and they got the local woodsman to come in and perform a lobotomy? How do you spell 'be' wrong? How do you miss out the word 'it'?

I'd really like to see a video of the rock flinging chimp, with screaming zoo visitors dodging for cover or running for their lives, screaming in terror.
