So my $125 Hanna ph/ec meter can't measure ph for shit. It's all over the place as I'm using it, I take it out of calibration solution, measure ph, put it back in solution, and it's off by .10-.30, rinsing with distilled water in between. Anything slightly acidic (not less than 6.0) sends it right down to 2.0-4.5

Imma try a 2-point calibration, but I thought this thing would be at least a little better than my $25 milwaukee (it isn't). I don't mind spending extra money on a good product, but this thing is trash. Should I bother buying a new probe for this one? I've only had it for about 2 months.

Idk man...I've always just used the cheap-o meter from Lowe's...that sounds like a real bummer that you spent 125 bucks on the meter and it only does half it's job.

I'd try to return it.

Are you doing hydroponic? Because I've never needed to measure PH for soil growing.

Go return that shit.

it's not a bad idea to have, checking your run off is a pretty good indicator of soil acidity. Especially if you're say, reusing soilless mixes for multiple rounds.

I don't reuse soil though, I create an awesome blend of organic shit every time, and more to the point, I've never noticed symptoms caused by an out of balance PH, if my plants started getting sick I would start testing stuff.

Unfortunately I don't think I will be growing weed for a while, as I only really did outdoor and thats gonna be too much work this summer, especially since I will be working the night shit for like 6 weeks straight at one point.

you don't reuse soil? aside from good dirt being expensive i've now got two raised flwoer beds that weren't here when we bought the joint. I was running out of places to put the old shit.

I'd like to but only when I've got the right equipment. Getting a dedicated r/o system today, and I'll have to order another meter for now, but yea, that's why I bought the ph/ec combo.

Yea, lol.... my best results so far have been with a MG organic blend, no nutes. I'm always trying different shit though, I've got 4 different soil blends going right now. It's become sort of a hobby for me, and right now I'm interested in hydro.

zos, I do compost, for my outdoor garden... would never bring it indoors.

I don't know how I would even go about reusing soil... By the end of the grow the pot seems like its mostly full of roots, I don't think I could salvage much soil even if I wanted to.

And soil isn't that expensive man, at least not where I live.

What do you use? Promix? If you reuse the soil do you use enzyme products to breakdown the dead organic matter and shit? It would probably be a good idea from what I've read.

I've always considered reusing my coco coir (because it can be reused no prob) but once I have the rootballs out of the pots, it looks like such a lost cause because the roots are so freakin dense. I just end up using new coir every time, its cheap enough and easy enough to work with, but I still wonder about reusing. Do you just break up and sift rootballs over a screen or do you have a different method?

i use a cooler of water, jsut gently shake them out, the roots don't break off too badly since they're floating instead of hanging, then just turn the tap on the cooler and drain the water off.

I didn't use any enzymes at that point, just flushed the hell out of it. but i do use hygrozyme throughout.

Hm, that sounds like a viable way to reclaim coir too, good plan. And that's what I meant by asking about enzyme products, using it in the nute solution, not during the separation from roots. Hydrozyme fits the bill nicely though ; D.

it actually came from having to figure out a way to transplant something from dirt, into hydro rocks, without fucking it up too badly.

Worked pretty well there too :)
