Sobriety is Good.

I'll probably take alot of shit for this...

I understand that not everyone experiences these kinds of problems like I have. But if you ever have lost, or ever will lose anything important in your life because of drinking, you'll know where I'm coming from. Conquering your demons is something to be proud of. Alcoholism is the most destructive and isolating thing I've experienced in my time so far. So the gradual re-emergence of my old self and the knowing that I'll eventually be in a position to fix everything that I've broken really are What's Good right now.

Like I said, I'll probably take alot of shit for this!

But it feels great man.

Anyone else gone or going through anything similar?

No, I actually like drinking and I've never caused anyone major harm or did something incredibly stupid (besides falling from a roof once) while drunk. However, like you said, having the willpower to stop from doing something that you deem self-destructive, whatever it is, is something to be proud of, because not all people can simply cease a habit that's causing them harm.

So good for you, I guess.

^Yeah, what he said.

After numerous failed attempts (although I was sober from 1980-1987, I kept smoking tobacco and pot, and developed a Xanax habit that led me back to alcohol), I stopped using tobacco, pot and alcohol on May 23, 2003. Best move I ever made.

I see the local drunks going to the local booze joints, and I just think "Better you than me, guys." Last year, two of them decided to jaywalk across a busy highway late at night to get to the liquor store-- the driver of the truck that hit them never saw them. A young woman was killed instantly, and the young man with her is, I think still in hospital.

Earlier the same year, someone I knew here just flat drank herself to death.

Alcohol really is a poison, I hardly drink any more, I have seen a few good people ruin themselves from it. You made the right choice.

I've found out it's way too difficult to stay sober with all the new opportunities that can't be tested for around.

Knowledge is power... but definitely not conducive to self control.

Also, alcohol is a shit drug, imo. It is however not all a bad thing. Some alcohol is good for the body but not in any amounts that would be considered recreational.

It is sooo good to hear it!

Fuckin' alcoholism. Every time I go outside I GET ANOTHER FUCKING TICKET
The only of the three options it hasn't let me to yet is Death.
Probably going to jail soon ( again )

I take breaks from substances often, as to not let it rule me or something. I haven't quite figured it out, but alcohol is pretty boring if you don't have someone to drink with. My father and mother are both "recovering" alcoholics, don't know how long they will have to recover for considering its been many years since they claimed those titles, and both have fallen off the wagon numerous times.

Positive reinforcement helps, just as long as it doesn't go to your head. Keep on keepin' on.
