If you had $10,000 what kind of car would you get if you wanted to have a really fast car.

I am thinking a Fox body mustang for like 6,000 and then 4,000 in mods.

If you can, please post what kind of mods you would do as well.

What do you mean by "Fast"

If you're talking straight line speed, I'd throw a 454 into a cheap F-Body. That'd leave me with plenty of money to modify it in any way I liked.

If your talking handling, an RX7 with a 13b-REW or a 240SX with an SR, or for 10 grand you could probably get an RB.

Of course, you could split the money and buy a decent one of each for 5 grand...

I'd do that last one, I'd have a drag car and a track car.

Some guy built a 10 second VW bug for $2008 using swap meet parts... I dont even wanna know whats possible with 10 if you really put your mind to it. 8s?

$3k Fox + 351w or Cad500 + $7k in the engine and driveline = win.

I doubt you could run 8s at a real dragstrip for $10k... a cage certified to 8.50s alone will eat a big part of your budget. Once you run 9.99/135mph or faster, there's a hell of a lot of safety gear that adds up real quick. Some of this gear cannot be DIY (SFI spec'd.)

Tons of people do. Bracket racing is about running as close to your dialed-in time as possible, there's no real minimum speed requirement.

At the Mopar Nationals last year I watched a dude win 2nd place in the bracket racing field driving a completely stock Jeep Liberty. The man ran within a few thousands every single time.

Most of the people at my local strip are retirement whores and businessmen who put a 20k crate motor in a spotless generic muscle car and run 10s all day, and then trailer home.

Well yeah, there's always tons of those checkbook mechanics running around, but every so often you run into people that do really unique stuff or build fast cars out of swap meet parts.
