I'm having difficulty finding parts or information on making a SBS. I know the legal aspect of them, so that's taken care of. I am looking for a parts kit, or conversion guide of some sort.
Basically I want to make one of these:

I have a mossberg 500 in the usual hunting set up with a 28" barrel. I would be interested in shaving about 20-22 inches off the barrel length. Does anyone have any information or know where I can buy the parts for this?

Hi, I have one of these which I made from a Mossberg Maverick. It was as simple as cutting down the barrel, the action slide assembly, magazine tube and making your own little foregrip. You have to cut the action slide bars down, then cut the bars again, and weld them back together or if you're good with a grinder shape them like they were. I can't really describe all of this and I may have forgotten something, but just buy a maverick and do what makes sense, it's easy as cake, the doer alone learneth.

so technically I would be able to cut the magazine tube down? I assume you would remove a middle section and weld it back together.
I don't know what this is called, but what about the doo-hicky attached to the barrel, that screws into the end of the magazine tube? Cutting it as short as I want it would be far below that. Actually, I assume you should be able to weld something on there, since we're already welding a magazine tube.
Someone correct me if I'm being stupid.

If I recal correctly you aregoing to need permission from the BATF befo you ever do that. It will require a tax stamp.

EviJesus I read your post and it sounds like you're pretty much on point however I would ask that you take a look at this diagram and tell me which part it is exactly you're thinking about.

You have to be really careful when welding, you need to be really good to get it correctly on the magazine tube because if there is even what would appear to be an insignificant amount of welding protruding from the tube, it could interfere with the action of the pump. I'm not sure if epoxy would stand up to the force, but it might be something to think about.
Even if you mess up the parts are very cheap to replace. It would probably be a good idea to try and shorten the parts of the gun below the barrel first as replacing a barrel is more expensive. I also forgot to add that you'll need to figure out a way to put the retaining ring for the lower assembly of the shotgun further back on the barrel.

And yes you need to get a tax stamp from the fag squad, that is, if you really care to do so.

take a look at this diagram and tell me which part it is exactly you're thinking about.
the thing connected to the barrel between part 17 and 18.
I think the lower half of your post explains what I was trying to communicate. Sorry for explaining it like a 4th grader with down syndrome.
And yes, I am well aware that the BATFE wants $200 to permit me to do with my property what I wish, "legally". I want to see what exactly it would take to convert my shotgun before I even think about handing $200 out.
thanks for the help so far guys.

i think you have to give a pretty detailed description of how you plan to convert it. Also, i believe you cannot ever use that receiver for a rifle ever again. Once it is registered as the short barrel shot gun i believe it stays one.
I may be wrong though.
