Okay, so my entire life growing up, fireworks have been illegal in my state. I would always crave fireworks and my parents werent cool enough to buy it for me from a neighboring state.

Im 24 and I finally decided to buy some on my own. As soon as I walked into the fireworks shop it was like a child in a candy shop.

But I was confused as hell, so many choices! Anyways I random picked with the help of a salesmen. The fireworks I got are not that bad. I got some mortars, roman candles and repeaters and Im impressed with them. Just that I want better. Do you guys recommend me any, for my next visit? What about rockets?(the big ones), and repeaters?

Oh yeah and what explosives do you recommend. I used to love m180s as a 10 year old. Is there something I would like as a 24 YO?

i was big into pyrotechnics in my early teens but havent gone near them for years

there are a lot of things you can do with premade black powder the real stuff not the substitues like pyrodex

its safe easy to do things with and the basis of a lot of pyrotecnics

flash powder is another thing you should look into there are many variations of it from potasium nitrate and aluminum with a hint of sulpher to magnisum and potasium permagnite

learn to make your own caseings and buy some cannon fuse

if you want an easy noisemaker that is relatively safe back when i used to do this i used paper towels with black powder wrapped in them or a sparkler as a fuse and never hurt myself

get a 2 or 3 liter plastic bottle thats dry put about 2 tablespoons worth of black powder in the bottle stab a small hole in the side and insert a fuse and tape it up or use a ghetto fuse

makes a hell of a bang and since it just builds pressure fast and breaks the bottle there is little to no chance of shrapnel or injury expecialy considering the small ammount of energetic materiel involved the only way you can hurt yourself is with burns or hearing damage

Get these:

Widely regarded as the best shells on the market.

And if it's consumer fireworks you're after, sign up at Pyro Universe (http://www.pyrouniverse.com/forum/). Post there for awhile and you'll know exactly what to buy next time.

if your looking for a glorious bang, try making a dry ice bomb... real inconspicuous to buy a 5 lb brick of dry ice, and they create some nasty carnage relatively safely... i know ur not lightin anything but it works out really well lol

Pathetic trolling common ... anyways to the OP I honestly recommend your try a few from each class to see what you prefer for instance there are Mines, Cakes, Aerial(s)(salute and rocket types), Shells/Mortars, Comets, fountains ect.. and many more .. each will follow it's own theme IE it will be a pop and launch a shell and a few seconds later bang and you have a glorious star pattern learn to identify and categorize your fireworks then you can figure out what you like best and then you can start finding ones with certain effects that you like ... then you can find certain resources for learning how they work and how to replicate them and make them yourself bigger and better and most of the time cheaper yourself

tis a glorious journey and i hope you enjoy it

be safe,

i love mortars and airbombs.

very powerful and they can be modified or shot towards the ground for more fun.

you can also carefully take the charge out of the firework and attach a fuse for a cherry bomb/m-80 type of setup
