View Full Version : Why people hate mods (not bad).

So I was nabout this today, and I thought of a peaceful solution to make people like mods more.

I don't want to start any fights here - this is a serious and simple thing I'm suggesting here.

Mods should contribute more content. Like, people don't like how they just show up, say one liners, move threads, etc. They should be more than that. They should be the rock of the forum. I know people have said, "oh mods are just regular users who clean the forum up" but that can't be good enough anymore. That's never worked. If they're going to mod, they have to contribute twice as much as anyone else, so they're respected.

Not only will it make this place more popular, but the hate towards the mods will significantly decrease!

It's win/win, so I think it should be mandatory for mods to contribute. Like, paragraphs and anything. Admins should inforce this. God bless.

i think it is important for the admins to select mods who model desired behavior and going by how most of the mods act, the desired behavior is to act like a jerk to everyone and be sarcastic and insulting and punish people, so no one should be surprised when thats how a lot of users here act

I don't know what is the problem with mods here on zoklet right now.

Anyway normal forums selct mods form the most active / useful / correct posters in their field.

On every forum I have been, if you see a very good poster, you are sure he will be the next mod.

And after they are selected to be mods, they still continue to post in the forum they were posting.

It looks like the problem is that on zoklet they select people to moderate forums they are not interested in.

Tha is probably why they do not post in the forums they are to moderate.

Which is not good - but weird to say the least.

If a mod doesn't care about the forum he moderates, he fails.

BTW - As far as I see, I am the only poster who takes the forum "Conspiracy" seriously, right now I see myself as the only decent mod there being able to moderate.

I generally agree.

While I don't expect that every moderator should be posting dozens of times a day, for hours every day, it's certainly reasonable to expect that they post (as part of just contributing to the forums, rather than as part of the job) with enough frequency that they aren't just "the voice of zoklet."

There's a several reasons that not all moderators contribute on a regular basis, and I'm not going to speak for everybody on that, but in principle, I agree that mods should at least have the time to make a few decent posts once in a while.

I agree. Mods should at least post as much as they did when they were regular users whenever they can. This shouldn't be any kind of rule, of course, but it's a great suggestion. I understand that sometimes mods, like all other users, take big breaks from wasting time on Zoklet, but, when they're wasting time here, they shouldn't let modding take away their focus from contributing. It's happened to all of us at some point, especially in our early stages (it's tough to get used to seeing just how many rules are broken around here and having to pay attention to it), but it shouldn't be the norm for any of us. Fish has actually tried to get this point across to us in the past on many occasions, but it's nice to have users reminding us as well.

I try. :/

And you do the best job of all of us.

Blunderful isn't talking about you, buddy.

I completely agree with Blunder, but at the same time I can take the list of mods and there are way more good mods than there are bad ones. I could honestly count on one hand, more or less, the number who do poor jobs.

Most contribute significantly and are fair in how they carry out their duties.

Regulars should provide more than that.

The reason why the mods don't really post much is because of their insecurity.

They'd rather keep their mouth shut than reveal how incompetent they are :o

Because no one likes having intellectually and/or physically inferior people to have power over them.
