View Full Version : Recommend me some reading
I'm looking to put some good books on my phone to read when I get bored at work.
Let me give you some examples of series that I really liked:
The Shannara series by Terry Brooks
The Enders Game series by Orson Scott Card
The His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman
Thanks!

The Ender's Shadow series was, to me, more entertaining than Children of the mind though I haven't continued the Ender's series past that. So that's definitely my first suggestion.
An awesome, wonderful, truly epic (but not loaded with boring bullshit) fantasy series would be The Rigante series by David Gemmel. The first book is called Sword in the Storm. The next is called Midnight Falcon. They tell the tale of a young man born into what could effectively be called a "barbarian" village and his relation with "Rome" and his culture. Adventure and badassery in spades.
Similarly, Gates of Fire. Best narrative retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae to exist. Ever.
And, for a lovely fantasy series which will warm the heart and entertain you in every which way (it's funny as fuck) I suggest A Spell for Chameleon, the first book in the Xanth series.
Hope any of these will catch your fancy!

:) Glad to hear you like them.
I do suggest continuing with the Xanth books at least up to number 4 (centaur isle) though number 3 (castle roogna) is, i think, by far the best.
