View Full Version : Curing? a new challenge.

Well, a thought just occurred to me. I have some plants going now (outdoors) but I won't be able to tend to them regularly when it comes time to dry and cure them because I will be off at school, in a location where I cannot, or rather, should not, bring large amounts of drugs. I had really just gotten decent at curing last year, and I needed to tend to the jars daily. I won't be able to do that this year. :(
I could get to the jars once a week at most. I'm not sure if I should even bother curing, I will probably just lose them to mold. Maybe there is some half way step? Something that will ensure the buds get somewhat cured but not a full cure that will risk mold. I dunno, I might just forgo curing altogether and mask hash or something.
Thoughts, comments, ideas?

Hm, I actually just thought of one potential idea... If I could rig a hydrometer to a motor I might be able to set it up so that when the humidity reaches a certain level, the motor is activated and lid is opened up for an hour or something. I dunno. That idea could work but I suck at ghetto rigging electronics and it seems like it would be hard and labor intensive on my part with no guarantee of working. I guess its a step in the right direction though.

I actually thought of a better solution, I'm going to a have a family friend do it for me and just give him some. Thats easier and safer then ghetto rigging an auto cure jar. /thread.

lmao. let them hang a couple extra days, may overdry them, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about mold.

Ya I'll probably do this just to be safe and have a friend keep an eye on them too.
Also I wonder how cooler temps affect curing? Because if they will still cure at lower temps, then any mold growth could be drastically slowed.

temps (within reason) matter less than humidity and air movement.
in fact lower temps during drying may help preserve some of the aromative turpenes (smelly oils) that can be lost at room temperature. Probably not, but it sounds smart, i think i'm remembering a year old article from high times...

Ya I'll look into it more. My theory being, if I can only see them once a week, any mold growth would be slowed to the point where it couldn't cause much damage before being seen. Its probably not even necessary for my purposes though, but you can never be too careful. Especially when it comes to needless waste. That's just like a slap in the face.

How about doing a water cure, I'm sure I read somewhere its a lot quicker than the regular way.
As for not curing and making hash cured is still better thean just dried.

water cures suck, a lot. tried it out last year, it takes about a week, but removes all taste and smell from the buds.
i guess that might not be a bad thing for college, but i wouldn't do it to anything decent.
hashing it's a much better idea. i know a cali site that has decent bags for under a hundred bucks if you want it.

Ya sure link it up.
That sucks about the water cure being bunk I remember you trying it. How was the smoke though? I could see why it would loose all smell/taste but how was the high?

the high was still there, but i had to look for it...i guess a lot of the cue's for me came from the smell and taste.

I never really got the multi bag system? It seems like 2-3 bags would suit my needs perfectly. Haha, I'm not separating 20 different grades of hash, that seems labor intensive and pointless, since I'll end up smoking most of it anyways.
E: Looks like they have a product just for moi http://www.extractionking.com/gro1-5-gallon-3-bag-153.html
Cheap too.

Good to hear results on a water cure from a reliable source, theres a lot of mixed opinions around on it, but anything that risks killing the quality is crossed off my list of options.

how'd this come out, or has it yet?

Haha I actually haven't seen my plants in a long ass time, I hope they're doing alright. But they won't be ready yet, at least historically in this climate the shit doesn't get near ripe until mid ways through October.
I'll check on them soon though.
