Saw PJ Wright at the Fairport Cropredy Convention in 2006 or so
The guy is amazing live, other than him, the dylan project and bodega, i'm not a HUGE folk fan, but it's good music.

Tom Morello's (stuff) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn4S7n_9iw4) as The Nightwatchman is pretty catchy.

Led Zeppelin's folk songs (Battle of Evermore)
Jethro Tull (Heavy Horses)
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Flight of the Conchords

I'm all about the folk nowadays. Though I'm drawn to folkpunk more often, I LOVE folk music. I play guitar, I "write standard boring songs with boring standard chords" and continue loving the music scene. Just saw Greg Brown about 2 months or so ago...amazing.

And I agree with Steve Earle when he says, “Townes van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.”

RIP Townes

I like folk, but i love bluegrass.

I gave tom morrello as the nightwatchmen a big chance because of how much i liked him in rage against the machine and adioslave, but i don't like his folk stuff.

I love townes van zandt, especially the stuff where it's just him by himself. the guy's songs convey so much more than most other performers.

Billy Bragg.

Man is god.

A bit too communist for my taste, really. He does sound good, though.

Billy Bragg is definitely fantastic. However, I'm not as well versed in this genre as I'd like to be. I think it often gets thrown around for a catch-all to anything played on an acoustic guitar before 1970.

He's a socialist

"Just because I dress like this, doesn't mean I'm a communist...At 21, you're on top of the scrapheap/At 16, you were top of the class/ but all they taught you in school was how to be a good worker/ the system's failed you, now don't fail yourself"

I really like "To Have And To Have Not".

Shit, as long as he's out composing new editions of the Internationale, the man's got to be a tad Marxist.

early Leonard Cohen, folks.

also...whoever said Nightwatchmen; I seen him at Bonnaroo two years ago. Morello can put on one hell of a show, alone. definatly one of my highlights that year. He even played "Gorilla Radio".

Any folkies in the house?

Yes sir :). Recently I've been listening to a program on Wisconsin Public Radio called Simply Folk ( http://www.wpr.org/simplyfolk/) every Sunday from 5-8 p.m. It showcases all types of folk music, from celtic to bluegrass to gospel. Right now my favorite artist is Dick Gaughan.
