Tom Waits' Private Listening Party - YouTube
Well, if this isn't a cause for celebration I don't know what the fuck is. On October 25, Tom Waits will release 'Bad As Me'. I already pre-ordered the deluxe hardback book edition from his site, I recommend you all do the same. You can also hear the single on his site. The single is ok, but the samples on the "party" clip sound great. Tom Waits is among my favorites, and is one of the true creative forces left in all forms of art today. Pick it up, and if you don't already, listen to his older works. (For those that are new, Rain Dogs, Bone Machine and Heart of Saturday Night will give you insight to his many phases.)
Now please tour!

Hell. Yes.
I haven't been up to date with Tom Waits, but Im so happy he's coming out with a new album. I'll be sure to purchase this when its released. He's good enough that I will actually throw some cash towards his way. I too would love to see him live. I've seen him perform live on a few youtube vids. Hes a pretty entertaining guy. 'Franks Wild Years' is probably my favorite from him, but its hard to pick just one. He style has changed so dramatically over the years. And that video is funny as hell. Tom Waits has got a strange sense of humor that I absolutly love. Then again, the guy is all around strange. This video had me laughing my ass off. Classic Tom Waits humor:

That seems to be the favorite by most. Have you listened to 'SwordFishTrombones'? It has that same kind of atmosphere as 'Rain Dogs'.
Rain Dogs is definitely one of the best 'rock' (sort of...) albums of all time. It's truly remarkable, and each song adds to the next. One of the few things I'd call perfect.
All of his albums are great, though. Amazing career. Bone Machine is incredible, Frank's Wild Years is a total trip and his early piano-beatnik days are vastly overrated by new fans. Check it all out, I don't think you can ever go wrong with Tom Waits. His live stuff is legendary as well, just check youtube.

Can't say I've listened to SwordFishTrombones but I have a lot of individual songs and I'm sure a few have came from that album.
I do agree with Bale though, you can't go wrong with Tom Waits.

What I really like is that he started out as a 'standard' singer songwriter in the early 70s with albums like 'Closing Time'. Over time, his style was constantly changing like 'Real Gone'. He's got something for everyone.
For those that arnt familiar with his style:

Quite a difference to say the least.
I picked up the new album, and I gotta say at first I was underwhelmed. For a man who drastically changes directions with every release, I was surprised at the low-key and almost laid-back effort. I played it, thought it was "good" and then moved on. But then late night, couldn't sleep, I put this on and realized it's greatness. It's the smokiest-latenight-insomnia-dream induced Waits since Frank's Wild Years.
This album is Lynch meets Waits, and I say that lovingly. It's like a broken jukebox you stole from some remote highway diner, you put in a gum-stained quarter and let it play while you drive along the coastal 2am highway. This is Waits playing in that bar from Blue Velvet. This album is smooth, rough, clean and downright dirty.
It features Les Claypool, Flea and Keith Richards (among others).
I'd highly suggest picking it up, and give it time. It's truly a great record from one of the most interesting and talented artists you can find, and is a great addition to his near flawless discography.

Orphans is my favorite Tom Waits album. Franks Wild Years being a close second.
