I don't really like the rap these days with the Auto-Tune shit and all of that. But, sure there are some songs that have come out recently that I really enjoy and hope that there is more of soon to come. But mostly some 90's and lates 80's is the way to go.

i enjoy rap alot. not so much the pop-y billboard 100 stuff, but more of the underground stuff. like mf doom, dead prez, immortal technique, buck 65, and black star.

but i even like some of that billboard stuff. its fun to dance to an fun to drive to. fuck you haters, quite trying to act cool.

lupe fiasco is the best rapper currently making music. if you dont agree listen to "gotta eat" from the cool. the whole song is an extended metaphor for cheeseburgers.

Not a big fan of rap but, I gotta say that I do enjoy the occantional story rap i.e. You Never know by Immortal technique or cast a light by plan b.

Most of the big commerial ring-tone rappers are good dance music but, nothing beyond that. I don't listen to that rap unless I'm at a party :/

Some stuff I like, besides all the widely loved classics like Biggie, Wu-Tang, etc.:

DITC dudes, esp. Showbiz & A.G.'s Runaway Slave
Boot Camp Clik dudes, esp. Smif-N-Wessun's Dah Shinin
Get Low Records (SF) dudes, esp. first Get Low Playaz album
Slim Thug
MOP
old Kool Keith
almost anything J Dilla related
Invincible
our own burgeoning beatbaker Aludin, who I learned about a bunch of good rap from
Freddie Foxxx
Peanut Butter Wolf
Scientifik

No! It was good in the 80s, then it became commercial and took a turn for the retarded.

You gotta be kidding me. There was good '80s rap here and there, but most of it was tame as fuck and generally pretty boring.

There's plenty of good Hip Hop/Rap out there, and it's always growing. However, there's an equal and opposite force that is much more readily apparent (top 40 hip hop/rap).

Every now and then, a gem will pop up on top 40 radio, but it has been commercialized to the point where the music becomes a distant second to the image (even considering how intertwined image and hip hop have always been).

Check out Spank Rock for some recent stuff that's been influencing a lot of the underground scene in the last few years.

Moreover, if you're more into the Rap side of the genre rather than Hip Hop, the Rhymesayers catalog is a good place to start.

If you're up to the search, you can find plenty of good new music, and along the way you'll encounter their influences (Black Star was mentioned above, and Tribe Called Quest is fairly ubiquitous... as is Nas).

One that doesn't get enough exposure, in my opinion, is Del Tha Funkee Homosapien.

my favorite rappers are:

Big L
KRS-One
Rakim
Nas (primarily "Illmatic")
and no one could deny enjoying selects by Eminem. don't even.

my favorite producers (as far as rap) are DJ Premier and Dr Dre. upon first hearing a Timbaland production I liked him alot, but it's really all the same after too long. that constant vintage woodblock groove, orch strings and distinctive snare. really cool at first. so obvious it's him, anymore.

I seen The Roots at Bonnaroo year before last (they opened for Tool, oddly). one of the best shows I've ever seen (out of the hundreds).

I wasn't too excited to hear of Jimmy Fallon taking over Late Night once Conan moves on to The Tonight Show, until I learned that The Roots were to be his in-house band. total rule.

I remember you from two thousand, and four...

And rap is the only type of music I have ever listened to, or know about.

yeah i really enjoy rap. but not the obviously shitty stuff like soulja boy or whatever his name is. i like stuff like immortal technique & jedi mind tricks which is really thoughtful and has substance. i also like dead prez, biggie, and dr. dre a lot. because they're good rappers :)

immortal technique is a shitty rapper with bad flow, but i give him credit for trying to be politically aware (even though he's still a homophobic idiot)

i've been listening to a tribe called quest, common, dalek, and even a lil three 6 mafia lately.

I personally cannot stand it/extract no pleasure from it.

It would be a valid music form, for as if someone truly likes it-- then it's valid. Sadly, many people are posers in hip-hop which doesn't help.

(PS: You can tell if you're a poser or not by how much you listen to it. If you listen to it alone at night, quiet so no one can hear... and to the point where it cuts into your sleep time... that may be an indicator of true love of the music. If you do it for attention or blast it when girls/people are around-- maybe you're one).

modern rap is retarded.....bunch of sirens, bells, and whistles over sum bass with a nigger blabbing (in rhyme) about hoes, crack, and being a "gangsta"
.......music should expand the mind not stupefy it...

American rap has recently gone to hell excepting Eminem, who is quickly on his way to going there. I listen to mainly foreign hip hop. My favorite hip hop right now is a defunct Korean duo from the '90s called DEUX, who split after one of their members was murdered by their girlfriend (that's one hardcore bitch, I say).

http://www.imeem.com/raynesarazaki/music/PZwmJXaw/deux_we_are/ "We Are", one of their most popular songs.

I've always listened to rap/hip-hop, ever since I was a kid.
Kanye West
Common
Lil Wayne
Ludacris
Jay-Z
Notorious B.I.G.
2 Pac
Lupe Fiasco
Dr. Dre
Ice Cube
Bone Thugz-N-Harmony
Busta Rhymes
T.I.
Rick Ross
N.E.R.D.
Lil Scrappy

I know there is more, but can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Overall the BD alias was shitty, not saying there weren't a couple decent tracks, but in general it doesn't compare to the RZA releases.
