if you don't want to drink, that's fine. I can understand that position and I can even respect it; there are many perfectly valid reasons to decide to avoid alcohol.
But I really don't appreciate it when somebody gets vocal about looking down on me for getting drunk after a particularly tough week of work. I'm not somehow less of a good person for going YEEHAW and downing half a bottle of rum and chuckling to myself on the occasional Friday night. It's fucking frustrating how prevalent the attitude of "drinking is bad!" is around here, I need to goddamn move.

Amen!
Yeah, I think that some people have a hard time seeing a distinction between responsible drinking and irresponsible drinking. for some of them, the very act of drinking is irresponsible, and for others, they're just willing to assume the worst about people that do things that they wouldn't do.
On the flip side, I once dated a girl who refused to drink, ever, and didn't particularly like it when I drank either. Her dad was a long-time alcoholic (who died of it), and so the concept of drinking was pretty much inextricably linked to alcohol abuse in her mind. I mean, it's an explanation for that way of thinking, but it doesn't excuse close-mindedness, even for her. I found myself repeatedly explaining to her that 1 or 2 beers with friends was okay by pretty much anyone's standards, but she was stuck on the idea that "if it's not bad now, it will be in the future." The whole "slippery slope" argument and all that.
In some ways, it's also a result of the whole "just say no!" and "abstinence only!" ways of thinking about risks. To assume that the only way to be safe from potentially dangerous things is to completely avoid them at all costs is to deny the possibility that, yes, perhaps, some people are capable of responsible behavior. It's an unfortunate and incorrect simplification of the matter.
I agree. I understand when people look down on you for problematic drinking, such as being drunk at inappropriate times, drinking so much that you're hurting your health, etc. But when people look down on you for the sole fact that you like getting drunk...they need a foot up their ass.
The thing is...people assume that you must have some deep-seated problems if you like to drink. Bullshit, I like to drink because drinking feel great. Researchers have even found that alcoholics and people at risk for alcohol experience more pleasure from drinking.

I forgot to ask - where is "here," exactly? Different places (especially different countries) all have pretty different standards for what is or is not acceptable.
In Japan, for example, there's a pretty strong drinking culture - getting drunk with co-workers at parties is pretty much expected, and there's even a specific way for pouring beer/sake for one's superiors, equals, and subordinates. It's pretty cool when your boss comes up to you and says you're not drunk enough to really enjoy the party.

im a friend of many people who drink. though i dont do it myself, but i dont mind them
it works out pretty well though. I get a lot of free (non alcoholic) drinks and kudos, in exchange for me driving them home. i also dont really need alcohol to socialise. Im a crazy person my nature
Point.
However, drinking doesn't make you cool, either.
The whiney little bitches that are all "oh my gawwwwwwwwwwd I was sooooooooooo druuuuunk last night..." ...every fucking day, are arguably just as annoying.

In other words you drown your hardships with alcohol because you are too much of a pussy to face your troubles like a fucking man.
Sincerely fuck you.

Luckily nobody really cares over here, as long as you don't get completely annihilated it's very unlikely you'll hear any comments about your boozing.

I don't know which is worse. These people who are like "I was ssssssooooooooooooooo drunk yesterday" "I smoke sooooo much bud I'm haaaardcore" "I'm sooooo stoned right now hahahah" constantly as if just like you say it's a marque of excellence coolness or whatever the shit. These poeple fail so damn hard.

Whilst I don't think people should be looked down on for drinking, how they act when they are drunk should be questioned. Its the same as drugs. If drinking/taking drugs makes you a cunt, don't do it.
Drinking sucks. Smoke some weed.

Nothing wrong with drinking per se--it is the consequences I think people object to.
You know, trivial shit like deaths and injuries and property damage due to drunk drivers; rapes and other violent crimes perpetrated by drunks; incidence of Fetal Alcohol Effects--and a host of other messes caused by irresponsible drunks which the rest of us end up cleaning up and/or paying for.

My problem is with people who cannot differentiate between "having a drink" and "getting drunk."

^Problem there is, some people define "a drink" as a tumbler of vodka, or a 40-ouncer of Steele Reserve.
For "people that look down on you for drinking" Isn't it kinda hard to look up at them if they're passed out on the floor? :D

Hoof em in the junk... If they can feel it they're not Stoned / Drunk enough. :D
Either way them leaving their guts on the sidewalk will shut em up for a bit.
Either way for me it's few and far between when I drink... I smoke bud more often than I drink... I designate for people because I'm a reckless driver and a mean son of a bitch sometimes and I love to scare people. :D
Usually it's a requirement to drink before you get into my truck... If not more or less you're gonna hit the bar afterwords.

My dad was an alcoholic and has been for the past 35 years. My childhood completely sucked.dick. Seriously, get some fucking responsibility you deadbeats. Drinking a pint won't solve your problems, but it just may land you in the hospital. Get some responsibility, or wear a condom. Don't be that fag that beats his kid around for 19 years, GETS IN A CAR ACCIDENT, AND MAKES HIS SON GET A PROSTHETIC FOOT. Really, I know firsthand, drinking isn't cool. It fucked me up. It's the reason I steal and hurt people. Good ol' pop cashed his checks for some nice booze... good son ends up robbing a house.

Just because drinking fucked your life up doesn't mean that it will fuck up everyone's. Your dad was obviously an irresponsible fucking person to begin with and alcohol was just a platform for him to express it with.

Dude, it's no excuse.
My father was an alkie, as was his and so on--I know what it's like to get beaten or and/or emotionally abused. I know what it is like not to be able to have friends over because you never know when good old dad will stroll naked through the living room. I know what it is like to go to bed crying because I am hungry and there is no food in the house.
I got over it. I strongly suggest you do the same, and stiop placing blame.

Either way good advice... Dear old dad was and to some extent still is an alkie but as long as you don't play the blame game get up GTFO of that situation and make something of yourself then you're doing it to yourself.
The pity party can only last so long... Then you either get buys living or get busy dieing.
thesupanoob as for having a a fake foot... Why aren't you out there winning some bets?... You could have drinks galore out of either pity or prowess. :D
Tell some youngins you got it blown off in Nam or you lost it saving some kid.

I can relate. People think just because you drink and your not in a social enviroment your an alcoholic. Perhaps it some cases that is true. However whats the real difference between you drinking a half dozen energy drinks a day and living on a caffeine high from me having a few drinks and living off a buzz? Fuck off.

To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.
Everyone has their vice. Alcohol is just a more socially acceptable one than most. And more destructive. The problem is choice. And the sins of the father...

When people criticize my lifestyle or choices, I simply beat them to a pulp right there on the spot, and then they learn not to do it again within earshot of me. I like life simple, uncluttered, and without fanfare.
Drinking makes me wanna party.
I kinda feel like partying right now.

This. Wanna fuck? :D
Seriously though, I prefer to get smashed on weed than get smashed on booze - no hangovers. The sensation is a million times better, anyway, and booze makes me sleepy. I never blaze and booze together, it's a recipe for fuckups.
