I've recently started reading comic books again. I've reread The Books Of Magic, Slaine and now am on Hellblazer...yeah the 80's rocked.

I've been downloading '.cbr' files and reading them on Cdisplay (CDisplay Image Display Program - version 1.8.1.0). It works well but I'm wondering if there's a better reader out there?

Recommendations please, what do all you perverts use to view your doe-eyed underage jap bint tentacle porn? :P

I use CDisplay, never had any reason to use anything else. I just had to get used to the hotkeys.

cbr's are just zips or rars that have had their extension changed. CDisplay will open zips and rars as well, and you can rename cbr's to turn them back into rars. Just throwing out random info.

Strange question to ask here, but meh.

For manga, I usually use this open-source app called Comix. I kinda like it, but I'm always open to something better.

I don't rly have anything good for you to try, but I'm kinda interested in the answer as well. I've been meaning to download a couple of books and was looking for something good to read them on.

I thought about saving them to my DS and reading them on that...but I dunno.

Be careful who you say that term around. It's Graphic Novels. Don't call them "comic books" just as you don't call Anime "Japanese Cartoons".

Microsoft Reader (I think)??

uh, the term you're looking for is loli tentacle hentai ;):p

The Books of Magic, Slaine and Hellblazer are all comic books, not graphic novels; the two terms are not interchangeable like 'movie' and 'film'. Those three titles are/were ongoing serials, with the stories told in them split between issues, while a graphic novel is a single story told in a single book; that's the difference.

jackketch, as far as reading your comics on a computer goes, CDisplay is about as good as it gets. Really, the only upside to downloading comics is that it's free, everything else about it will never be as satisfying as holding a book in your hands no matter what program you use to view them.
(P.S If you're sticking to the 80's, you'll probably want to check out Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing)

Yeah thats on my list (cos I believe it has Mad Hetty in there and John Constantine).

Oh btw as far as I'm concerned they are all comics, be they serials or complete stories.

I would highly recommend Tales from the Crypt, if you can find any copies, that is.

I always thought that the title changed from "comic" to "graphic novel" once all those stories were collected into one large book. Books of Magic is a good example. Several comics that tell a single story condensed into one book.

But meh.

By the way, do you happen to know where I can dl The books of Magic? I've read the first one because I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman, but I'm having trouble finding more online. :(

I know you can't post torrent links in this forum, but maybe you can PM me or point me in a good direction for comic/graphic novel torrents?

I've always liked Alan Moore's take on this:

It's a marketing term ... that I never had any sympathy with. The term 'comic' does just as well for me. ... The problem is that 'graphic novel' just came to mean 'expensive comic book' and so what you'd get is people like DC Comics or Marvel comics — because 'graphic novels' were getting some attention, they'd stick six issues of whatever worthless piece of crap they happened to be publishing lately under a glossy cover and call it The She-Hulk Graphic Novel....

That's called a trade paper back (or hardcover, I'm sure the difference is obvious), but like the man up there ^ said, it's also used as a marketing tool. Hell, even Watchmen isn't technically a graphic novel, but you'd better believe that any copy you pick up is going to have "graphic novel" written on it some where

I highly recommend "Preacher" to anyone that likes comics. It's extremely badass and entertaining.
