I tend to take the police's side in stories like these (since usually people don't consider why the officer needed to react a certain way), but here the officer is just an absolute moron. A guy runs a red light and pulls into a fucking hospital, they start off by calmly telling him that it's an emergency and that their mother is dying, and the cop wants his license, insurance, and then apparently spent about 13 minutes lecturing him, telling him how he can "Screw him over".
The civilian made a mistake by becoming loud and angry after the officer proved to be a moron, but either way, the officer could have defused the entire situation with some common sense.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was racially motivated. I highly doubt if white people got out (in a hospital, no less) saying that their mother was dying he would be telling them "GET BACK IN THE CAR" or "Shut your mouth" or telling them how he could take them to jail and screw them over. I can understand why his initial reaction was to be aggressive (you're a cop, several people are getting out of a car quickly), but he obviously understood the situation shortly thererafter, and insisted on trying to exert his authority. I'm glad the guy happened to be an NFL player...hopefully this asshole is going to get fired.
