If I am missing something, please tell me lol :muahaha: (btw there are hyperlinks (to the dumbasses))
I want to construct a grow box out of either rubbermaid products or maybe out of wood if I have the drive to do so :o
If I decide to go with the wooden grow box, it'll be 5.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 (Is this enough?)
I'm going to make some activated charcoal filters and place them in the appropriate spots on the grow box, obviously.
I might (MIGHT) get the 250watt one but I'm deciding on the 150 watt (http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Presssure-Sodium-GROW-LIGHT-400-250-150-watt-w-/400192553185?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item9bff7a4a0e) for now. It looks pretty decent so I'm going to go with that unless you guys say otherwise. I'm wondering what the fuck I should do about the timer (Help?)
Also, since the height of the grow box will be 5.5 feet, I honestly don't know if I should use an HPS light since I'd have to keep it around 3 feet away from the plant (if the plant is like 3.5 feet in total (pot as well) then I'd have to keep the light at 6 feet? Sucks but maybe I can improvise...)
As for nutrients, I'm deciding to use Jack's Classic since experienced growers tend to use it. I'm going to have to add lye though so I'll need that as well.
Of course, I'm going to use 3 gal pots. I'll buy an electronic pH tester kit and a humidity/thermostat device/whatever lol.
Since I'm not looking to use a lot of space, I'm choosing an indica dominant strain (http://www.sanniesshop.com/herijuana-cannabis-seeds-en.html) that has good use for ScrOG if I decided to ever do that. I'll also provide a review so that zombo.com doesn't come at me with a razorblade
I might as well buy a pH control kit as well :P
In order to make sure that I get rid of the smell, I'm deciding on using this stuff (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=kjrmc&cp=9&gs_id=y&xhr=t&q=citrus+magic&gs_upl=&um=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1280&bih=708&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=14562545445332177291&sa=X&ei=GXOnTtn4AYrWgQfbncgC&ved=0CJgBEPMCMAg) just to give my room a nice smell to it
I'm just going to get a nice job and save up over time. This may seem a little too early, but I want to get at least half an ounce (lol) out of this project. Inexperienced growers tend to provide weak results so I want to hear and learn from the men themselves (people who can use what I'm using and get like 4 ounces ).
I would have better results growing shrooms (I have some experience ) but I love me some marijewanna.
I'm gonna use this guide (http://www.growery.org/3047/How-to-Kill-Spider-Mites-Get-Rid-of-Spider-Mite-Infestation-on-Cannabis-Marijuana) in order to fight off those little bastards :o
Am I all set or did I miss something?

3 gallon pots is way bigger than you need for that light. cut off milk jugs make a great low footprint 1 gallon pot, which should be plenty for the size of the light.
hmm...you might look at these 125 watt cfl's, very low heat but not bad for starting out, though a 250 hps would be light years better, and still not much heat.
timer is easy, any wall mart or radio shack carries them, sometimes in gardening, sometimes in lighting. they're under ten bucks for a cheap one, or about 15 for a programmable one (make sure it's 3 prong if your light is three prong though, the cheap ones sometimes aren't)
the cabinet is extremely similar to the one slapshot built, his thread should jsut be a page or two back, you might check it out for ideas, he came out pretty decent with it.
edit: oh shit, jump on this if you wanna do cfl http://www.amazon.com/Brite-Wing-Wattage-Fluorescent-Fixture/dp/B001VOCUOS/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1319666101&sr=8-11 hell get two at that price.
if you get a ph kit, get a water test pen, not a soil strip kit, those suck. you want to test the run off water after it goes through your soil.

As for the smell, what is a guaranteed way of getting rid of the smell?
I've been thinking about using the citrus magic (It supposedly has activated charcoal in it) and the carbon filter fan but I wasn't too sure if it would erase the smell (I have to make sure that the smell isn't noticeable because I have a VERY very VERY very VERY nosy person I'm living with, but I know that if I'm sly enough, I can hide the plants right under their nose ) since I read a thread about some guy growing AK47 and it still stank even with the carbon fan.
I'm planning on covering the box with clothes or maybe even put a poster or something over to make an optical illusion (lol ) but I'd make sure not to cause any fires or unnecessary build up of heat to avoid plant death/burn.
But I'm sure that I'll be able to coax them into letting me keep the plants
I downloaded a torrent that had multiple growing guides (Including the mentioned "How to grow medicinal marijuana by Todd McCormick" so I'm sure to learn the ways of growing.
I've measured the dimensions of the closet that I have (2.5 x 3.5 x 5.5 (L x W x H)) so I have about that much to work with.
Since there isn't that much height to work with, I think I should go with the CFLs in the link that you posted (If I can't use the HPS light for a box at least 2 x 2 x 5).
If I do this, I really want to get a decent yield and do it right. I don't want to make any mistakes growing the plant (which might not seem possible) so I'm going to write down every step I'm supposed to take on a piece of paper in order to get everything done correctly.
If I flower at 12-15 inches, what is the average height of a plant going to be when it's flowered?
Thanks.

IDK. Some say charcoal is magic and others say that it holds a lot of smell that it then releases in a thick miasma of smell. If you get CFLs are you going to buy a bunch of $4 light sockets? Are you going to get bulk charcoal at the aquarium supply?
What kind of fans are you getting?

Well, with that CFL light fixture from amazon, I don't think I'll have to buy the light sockets at all.
I might get that mentioned silent PC fan unless you have something better that you can refer me to.
And yeah, I'll get whatever charcoal that will make sure that I don't end up with a dank smelling house.

I see. Though plants can take 40 watts per sq. ft. and up.
Are you going to plant extra plants to maximize use of the light and thin out the weaker ones? You can smoke the ones you pull even though they're not primo, you'll know you're not smoking oregano.
You can use plant ties to pull the tops away from the light or trim the top to make them bush out more.

I've been wondering about "topping". It supposedly makes the plant shorter and also creates more colas. How is this done?
I was wondering if I could make a little garden (Like a 2 x 3 rectangular pot with soil) for a SoG type of grow in order to maximize the usage of the light.
If I'm patient enough, I might be able to buy the 250/150w HPS light as well. I'd use the CFL fixture to clone the plants and then send them into another grow box (There's two sides to my closet, but there's this little wall in between that cuts it in half (Total dimensions is 8.5 x 7.5 x 3 (HxLxW) to flower them.
I'd use that PVC/Fishing line method if ScrOG is a better idea (Unless they're the same thing :))

12 inches is way too big. they will double or triple in size during flower.
you'll want to go pretty much straight from rooted clones, maybe a week or two in veg.
topping is easy, just find the top most new growth, and clip it off just above the top node.
Trying to hide it from someone in the same house though... just isn't going to work, short of completely airsealing the closet and putting a good charcoal scurbber on the end of your exhaust. even then you're going to have scent when you open the door to water and shit like that, plus even more smell once they're cut and drying.

Are you sure you know just how smelly they are, even at 4" tall, let alone when they're 18" at 30 days and ready to go to 12 hr days? :lsd:

Wouldn't the citrus magic help as well since it's going to be giving off a strong air freshener smell which will aid in masking the dank? Or no?
Well, they usually go out of town so I could arrange for a particular weekend to harvest, etc.
I was thinking of also using the carbon fans + citrus magic to cover up the smell when I am curing the bud and cutting, etc.. Afterwards, I'd find a suitable place to keep the weed at so I don't get caught with it.
So, when the clones start showing substantial root growth, I'd put them in the 16/8 cycle for 1.5 weeks tops and then send them to the flower box in a SoG/ScrOG manner, correct?
I know that I'll have a lot of smell to deal with, but I'm confident that I can mask the majority of it.

I can only imagine.
If I can't, I'll just get an apartment with my good friend, who is also a toker, and then start the project from there. That might be in around 2 years though
Hopefully you guys will be around to see the dank that I'll produce

Good luck. Them plants must think half their job is pumping out smell.
Plant thinks to self, "I could grow more today, but I gots to stank too!"

Lol I hope I get a Bill Cosby pheno :XD:
But honestly, do you think I'd be able to at least cover the smell up so that someone who knew the smell of weed wouldn't notice it if they'd open my closet door?
I'm sure that the citrus magic would aid as well though.
I'm not gonna half-ass it, because I want to make sure that this project goes down.
If I can't do this, I'll just grow some mushrooms and coax deus to create a mushroom forum or something lol (if there isn't already one).

IDK. I know that I used to smell grow ops a lot but I never smell them anymore. Though a few weeks ago cops on a call said they smelled a nearby house and got a warrant or so the paper says.
Have you ever walked down the street at night through air saturated with the smell of at least dozens in flower? It's all you can think of.
I know that I lived near a house that was busted but I never smelled anything. It's a puzzle.

Yeah, I have. It's a pretty funny situation, if you ask me.
Idk who said it, but supposedly closet grows aren't even a blip on the radar (unless you have a huge ass closet) so I don't think I have to worry about electricity costs.
It's just the smell, huh?
That's pretty much all I have to defeat lol

There's got to be something better than charcoal.
I don't have the knowledge, but I imagine something with chemicals and machinery. Something one who had a few spare $1000's and 1000's of hours could do. :hrmph:
A deal where the air would blow through oil maybe. I got the idea from the oil soaked sponge air filter in my old lawnmower. It gets dirty and you just use dish soap on it, squeeze it dry and put oil in it. Squeeze the excess out and you're good to go.
That seems too simple though. I know oil traps dust but don't know about smell. Somethings got to beat charcoal. Something one could change every day/week in a few minutes.
I've wondered about the way smoke bubbles through bong water. Suck the air through water? Hmmm.
"Everybody go on vacation."
"Wha'?"
"Yeah. I need the house for experiments for about 6 months."

no dude, charcoal is perfectly formed by nature with microscopic scent catchers all through it litle cracks and crevices and shit, massive fractal surface area. it doesn't get better than a good charcoal scrubber. the molecules bond perfectly to the material.

No, just to cut the plants up and dry them and then cure them.

So what if I get a powerful fan with a dense amount of charcoal?
Smell is worse than sound, and I could probably hide sound better than smell.

it's less about the fan, and more about doing it right, sealing it right, then paying the money for a proper charcoal filter/fan combination.
i don't know if you've ever shopped for fans, but once you get past 15 dollar box fans, and ten dolar bullshit booster fans, anything decent jumps up into the 2-5 hundred dollar range.
now..you've got a small area, you don't need anything huge, so you could probably find the entire assembly for a couple hundred bucks...but if you want to truly take care of the smell, for Months at a time, with no screw ups, it's going to take more a good chunk of cash.
you can half ass it, and it will leak, and they will smell it. Doing it right requires a little bit of handyman, or a little bit of money. the more of one you have, the less of the other it will take :)

Ok, well the project seems as though it may still continue as of now.
I just have to acquire the money to do so :o
Ok, zombo, if you were in my position, how would you go about making sure that it wouldn't smell?
The strain I want has a "coffee" smell but doesn't really reek too much.
