He changed his username to figure-8 because he probably envisioned an 8th dimension during one of his DMT trips. The number 8 itself actually looks like a knot, too.

Figure 8 is also an album from an indie rock singer called Elliot Smith. He himself said that this album is dreamlike and fragmented. If I was to hazard a guess I would say ate's real name is probably Elliot.
