That sounds sweet, but just because you arrange sound clips on protools or fruityloops does not mean you are a musician. Maybe other people disagree, but I think being a musician means creating it from nothing. those programs do like 70% of the work for you

 man must interface with something to harness the power of music, whether it be two sticks, a horn made of brass, a grand piano, or fruity loops.

The medium does not matter, its the intrinsic "musicness" that counts. Electronic music is all about composition.

well its a bit more than that. i used cubase, and midi keyboard. alot of the textures can for sound waves i i used, its like a cross between an electronic and neo classical i just hit record and did it, i think there is a touch of waltz in there to. ive played piano sense i was 4, i can pretty much play anything thats not a horn. fruit loops is garbage.

If you don't have a video then you would obviously be judged by the song/voice itself.

And make a soundcloud account, it'll be easy for future uploads.

Well you smacked yourself in the face for nothing. Obviously you've never recorded on an eight-track and had to learn to process of using recording busses and how you have to pan certain ways to get it onto certain tracks, or learned anything about equipment really, because the computer does it for you. or had to play a part 100 times over and over to make it sound perfect because your midi sequencer does that.

youre right that the best ones take talent to make, but there is a HUGEE difference between someone writing/recording traditionally and someone using cubase/fruityloops/ protools etc.

I dont wanna disrespect the people using those things, but it sounds like you dont know how easy you have it.

This is me playing one of my original songs on guitar. I write my own music, but I have shitty recording material. I have to wait until I can get to a recording studio to get better quality I just haven't looked for one, I think I sound better live. I've noticed most musicians I've been into have come out around the age of 25, and I'm barely 21, so I'm thinking I still have time to shape up. I've been playing guitar since I was around 12, I taught myself how to play with guitar websites and tabs. I usually play in the Key of A Pentatonic, A Minor, or A Blues Minor.

This one's by me called "I'm going to be cold" by me Julio Cesar (I remember I just wrote, composed, and recorded this one in like less than half an hour, really fast.):

You can find more of my music here: www.myspace.com/juliocesar154

You could benefit greatly from investing more money in your recording equipment.

I made that track on July 4th (last year, not this year), my aunt was simultaneously dying of a drug overdose because she abused pills. My little cousin found her dead on the couch that morning.

I was making this song at the same time and did not know of the events.

You know what it takes to make music?

While this is a great idea for a thread, alot of these factors are hard to determine. Things like stage presence and performance talent cant really be measured accuratly.

Anyway, here are some of mine. You've probably already heard these if you checked out my youtube vids...
I has a bass... AND a green couch!! - YouTube
Little practice jam - YouTube
Bop bop ba da! Improv bass - YouTube

I've also written a few pieces of music, but I have yet to actually play them on bass. They're cheesy midi files I made in guitar pro. I'll post them if anyone wants to hear 'em, though. Most of it is just drum and bass guitar.

You're actually pretty good, in my opinion. My father LOVES Frank Zappa. I probably has about a jillion CDs that guy made. :)

good skills, bass guitar is what got me in to music, I wanted to learn how to play "Longview" by Green Day more than anything. Once I figured it out I was all like

While im not working the console here, I am certainly involved in the process. I know what it takes, and know that you can compare electric and "traditional"musics, but you certainly can't create a hierarchy of value.

Thats a decent recording, we're getting some better ones, in fact finishing up a track tonight so hopefully we will have 3 fresh ones to put up. Also, there are a shit ton of live recordings on there if you need any evidence of "musical skill."

also sex drugs and rock and roll is decent. The drums sound like shit though how are you doing this? And I guess I wish I could hear what you're singing. But on the plus side those guitar harmonies at the beginning are tittays, you should roll with that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2LKONUjetY

i got signed when i first got out of prison i was like 21 and didnt understand that record labels are fucking dicks i just saw money. they have me in development for like 3 years and it was a 3 album contract so i never could release anything, i did alot of shows though. ive opened for tool johnath davis
shpongle, nin, bassnectar, caspa, and did a show with ron jermy as a host, that was nuts. now days i free lance at a major recording studio for a major label, but its mainly just as an audio engineer.

anyways, this song was an experiment to see if i could effectively relay emotion, its my favorite time ive done. and i did it because i sat and waited for a girl and then acted like slag. it help to get it out and i was surprised

alot of people dont understand the process of recording, its my favorite part. i really like the intro, the bass line is almost a dub rythem.

I am, I wrote Ice Palaces which everyone is always saying is the best song ever. I've already talked about it way too much myself though.

Nonetheless, within a few days I may as well upload a song or two of some other variety definitely because I'm always working on my tunes from 3 or more fronts (rapping, trad. songwriting and maschine for making dance songs) and now that it's mentioned, I do believe it's about time to put some of that out for ppl. So here's my entrenched slot for that.

The Artful Dodger

Pretty cool I like that scale. I always attributed the F note to the color green and the heart chakra. I once wrote a really awesome song in F minor, it was pretty cool. It sounds like you're using a lot of intervals though.

On another note, I just wanted to mention something about the lyrics to my song "I'm going to be cold" are kind of strange, but were automatic, I just wrote them really fast. The second verse I think is supposed to emphasize for each person to perform their True Will and adhere to "Do what thou wilt" and believe in individuality. Like for instance sometimes I feel like some people do some of the things I do but like sarcastically as if that's what would happen if they were to follow my example if I were a leader, but no, everyone is unique and conqueror they all have to do their own will. I'll do my will, they can do their's. There is no commanding others in the Law of Thelema, you cannot copy the master, you must find your own unique individual free will, so you don't have to copy me. Preaching Thelema is basically telling people don't do what I do or do what I tell you to, you have to "Do what thou wilt" don't be copying me, that's completely contradicting to the Law of Thelema.

It's like how cow's moo and dog's bark. Pickachu says Pickachu and Squirtle says Squirtle, Thelema is about coming in sync with your true nature and Squirtling. I personally Julio, in Thelema you need to find your True Will, your True Nature. That is the essence of being a Thelemite, to be an individual and express your own core free will and not be limited by anything.

yeah i tend to do that alot its drops in to b alot. the green is from the f minor clear and emotional.
i have always thought that when songs just come never second guess it just record. they are the best ones.
