These games were originally made popular by Starcraft, but moreso by the mini-games in Warcraft 3. I've been playing the hell out of these games recently. If you have time to get addicted, here are some of the better ones I've found:

Those are the best ones I've been able to find. There are others, but they are flawed for one reason or another. It'd be hard for me to pick a favorite. I'd say that Onslaught is really cool because it has multiple levels and you can combine specific towers to do special attacks. Defender is a really cool one based off of Ultima Online which switches up towers for wizards. The classic Warcraft 3 one is Elemental Tower Defense. Anyways, if you've got some time on your hands, these games are crazy fun.

edit: VR Defender might be the hardest one, but... it's in space!!

also, there's another one which is pretty good but is really just a rip-off of Elemental Tower Defense... it's called Shock Defense and it can be found at addictinggames.com .

I'd also like to point out that it's really annoying how often people misspell defense as "defence."

Dude, these games are awesome. I was playing one at http://www.addictinggames.com/ at one point, but I couldn't for the life of me get past this one level with guys that moved too fast and had too much health...

But yeah, glad someone posted a list of these, because they're worth the time (wasted):D

I think we should post our high scores on games when we get them so we can compete with each other.

Updated with the addition of Xeno Tactic. It's a different take on tower defense because it requires you to build your own path for the creeps to follow (path of turrets = awesome, imo). It's difficult on the harder levels though.

I also removed Picnic Panic... cause it's dumb.

Plants vs Zombies is an amazing one. So much so it's sold in retail stores. Very smooth and lots of options for new weapons and a lot of different enemy types

last tower defense game i played was bloons tower defense. pretty crappily made, but still addictive
