Seriously, this stuff is golden.
I use to be the worse nail bitter. I used to bite them till they bled, bite the skin around them, even bite my toenails. I actually can't remember back to a time when I didn't bite my nails. I can't remember a single time I've clipped my nails or filed them, I just bought my first ever pair of nail clippers today.
I loss the urge to bite my nails about 4 days after buying the stuff. Seriously, try it.
EDIT: I've tried to quit nail biting many times and always failed. On the other hand, I quit cigarettes cold turkey no problem. So when I say this stuff works, I mean it.

That is probably my only bad habit, maybe I should give it a try. I feel like if I put lotion on my hands every few hours the taste of that would act the same way though.

That stuff doesn't really work for me. I find that it irritates me having this stuff that smells and tastes like shit on my fingers, so I'd actually chew them more until I got it all off. I've never come across one that tastes bad enough to stop me chewing 'em; maybe if they made one that tasted like olives it'd work on me.
I used to chew them a lot worse. The skin around the nails more than the nails, I never really had a problem with actual nails. The way I found to alleviate it, besides general willpower (which goes to hell when I'm drunk anyway) is to use nail clippers instead of biting; if you bite skin, it tears and leaves more damage and irregular areas that are oh-so-tempting for biters. If you use clippers, you can leave a smooth surface that it's impossible to chew up. I only chewed my fingers when there was an irregularity or raised bit that looked tempting, so this works real well. I don't do nearly as much damage to them now, and they look a lot better.
And getting involved with a girl helps your motivation too, for a few reasons :p

I quit biting cos I kept getting colds and diseases from my hands. When you're in hospital for a couple of months that's kinda a big deal, cos there's all sorts of bugs running around.
I still bite the inside of my mouth though. I guess I've just developed a taste for the hjumn bacon.

I do that too, and my tear strips off my lips. Ouch.
I bit my nails for years and tried everything - substituting lollies, foul tatsing and smelling nail polish, bribes.
I finally quit when someone said "you can't stop biting your nails" and I said "ha ha, I'll show you".
Sometimes, you just need a bit of a challenge to force you into it.

Wow, this is like...word for word me, that's exactly what I do, with the nail clipper and stuff. But for me it's not drinking, it's watching movies, then I tear my cuticles to shreds.
You never really quit, even if you go for a whole week without doing them. However, I think that you slowly get better and do it less over time.

I don't think biting my nails is a bad habit for me. I cut them that way, since I don't like using nail clippers, since I've always found them anti ergonomic.

I have a similar problem messing around with my hair. Gotta find some magical shampoo.

Scratch your asshole once about every hour or so, but don't touch anybody or anything in between. You could prolly pull this off during your next week of holidays... as you mope around the house.
How badly do you want to stop biting your nails. How far are you willing to go to get the job done? These are all very good questions.

I just got a bag of suckers or chewed on pens. It works just the same except it's for the oral fixation part and not just tasting nasty.
