So the past coulpe of months I've been finding it hard to remember anything. Its almost like as soon I learn something its been erased? . Ihavent been sleeping very well for a while too ie going to bed late round 1 -2 am and waking up at around 8 or 9 . Could that have something to do with it?. Im just looking for some tips and that to help with these problems. Thanks in advance.

did you just start smoking more weed than you usually do? My short term memory is pretty much fucked now due to smoking too much weed, but before i was a stoner, i was an insomniac, and my memory was lame then, but bounced back. If your not smoking too much weed, it sounds like the not sleeping enough thing is your problem. Get your dr. to put you on 1mg of valium it puts you to sleep perfectly, but you dont have shitty sleeping pill side effects.

Valium will make your memory problem worse. I have pretty bad memory as well. I forget the ending of a movie I saw just a few days ago for instance. The more I use my brain to study the more it improves. I used to smoke pot and take benzodiazepines daily and a handful of other drugs whenever I could get my hands on them, which I think may have largely caused the problem which has persisted after quitting. I also have sleeping problems so it's possible this is partly to blame as well. My sleeping problems are getting worse now to the point I missed class today because I was awake until around 6am and just needed to rest.
I don't have any answers I just have the same problem.

I don't drink much nor do I take drugs? So it could be the sleep bit?

It would make sense since it sounds like the problem started around the same time your sleep pattern changed.

Start taking Bacopa monnieri and Galantamine. Galantamine is really expensive but it's great for memory. Many people use it to combat (and almost entirely neutralize) the memory loss associated with the use of Benzodiazepines.
Oh, and get more sleep, dude. That is probably the main cause. People who get sufficient sleep also live way longer. Adequate sleep cannot be emphasized enough.

Is that stuff legal and avaailale in australia?. As for exspensive how much is it roughly and are their any known side effects? Would I get it from a doc , chemist or health food shop?

Yes, as far as I know. They're classified under the whole supplement thing, so I'm pretty sure they're legal most everywhere. Bacopa is actually incredibly cheap, and on the whole I have to say it's one of the best nootropics (cognitive enhancers) that I have ever tried.
This is one of the cheapest sources of galantamine I've found: It's ~50$ for a bottle that should last you two months. Each capsule is 8mg but I recommend splitting them into halves and taking it twice each day (it stays active in your system for about 7 hours). Still, not very cheap.

I would mostly focus on getting more sleep, though, you may not need these things at all. Sleep is really important for the maintenance of health in general, both physical and mental.

Melatonin can be good for sleep, but it's best not to rely on it every night. I guess weed can also be a sleep aid, too.
Honestly, I don't know, if there was an easy cure for insomnia there would be better sleep drugs on the market that don't foster dependencies. I've also never really had many problems with insomnia, so I'm not really that informed on the topic. Maybe someone a bit more informed/experienced with insomnia than me can help you?

Exercise
Some nights just can't fall asleep if I don't do a physical activity.

What seems to be causing your insomnia?
I know I have trouble falling asleep because I think too much before bed
